I don't see it going much further than the supposed Yao/Stoudemire rivalry. Anyone talking about this being the next Bird/Magic rivalry is getting way too far ahead of themselves. In future years, I see Lebron becoming a special superstar at least at Kobe's level and maybe at Jordan's level, while Carmelo as just a good all-star (not too shabby at all, but not in the same league as Lebron). Meanwhile, there will be other young rookies that the league is touting as the next Bird/Magic rivalry.

I agree, Carmelo's not really the special all around talent that LeBron is. He we will be a great scoring SF, but Lebron is a far more unique player. The rivalry will only truly last a long while if we some epic Denver-Cleveland finals encounters.

Of course many times, rivalries are created by the media. There's always gonna be a connection between the two player because they came out the same year. If both continue to be great players and stay injury free, who knows how much longer the media will keep it going?

exactly...as long as the media chooses to harp on it, the supposed "rivalry" will exist...but until they both meet in a postseason series, the true rivalry won't be consummated.

(did i just say "consummated"?)

good point, BIrd-magic in college was the start. Russel-Wilt was due to small league and trips to the finals.

This Melo-Lebron thing is a media thing.

Melo career looks more like Big Dogg (poop) Glenn Robinson or Glen Rice than Larry Bird! Allstars for sure, but not Super Star material just yet.

The LeBron-Melo rivalry started in HS, at the ABCD Camp and in their Oak Hill/St Vincent St Mary's games.

I think it'll go on for a while.

I think the best comparison in regards with rivalry with these 2 would be MJ and The Human Highlight Film. At the beginning stages they were head-to-head with highlights and scoring feats, but Jordan pulled away with his Championship rings. It is going to be one-sided in the end.

right now, Carmelo has more of a shot to win a title than Lebron does...i don't think that will play out at all...i think these 2 will face each other someday in the Finals.

I don't know about that. The Nuggets don't have a franchise player and except for once every 25 or so years, you don't win championships without franchise players.

Nuggets are pretty much guaranteed to come out of this offseason w/either K-Mart or Q. Rich...add 1 of those guys to a roster of Carmelo, Miller, Nené, Tskita, Boykins, Camby & maybe Doleac, & i think they are much closer to a title than Lebron is in Cleveland.

I guess I expect from James what I've seen from Jordan; so, I think that with James plus a star like Boozer and one more smart move, they're in great shape. I don't see the Nuggets making even making it out of the west any time soon
