He would be worth substantially more if he was consistent. Here is a factoid
Timmy Hardaway has scored between 15-25 points 20 times this year and in those games Hardaway is actually shooting over 50% from 3 and has an efg in the high 60's
which also tells you about the other 40 games or so where he has shot BELOW 20% and brings his 3 pt shooting down to a mercurial 32% on the year.
How can you be so good and then so bad--and nothing in between--literally Tim Hardaway has been either very good or very bad--never average.
Now for me--there is room to keep him as a 1.2mm $ piece as a 2nd guard with the hope that he can improve consistency--hey when hes good hes very good and experience / maturity should only rise. Hes athletic and he can shoot it. I think hes a little bit of a better all around player than is purported. His 36 minute split leave s him at 3.6 rebounds 2.6 assists which is a big increase from his rookie year--those are good stats to move up on.
We have to remember this kid is 22 years old. Thats a factor--too many times in the NBA teams "give up" on a guy who has not developed fast enough only find such player blossoming with another team 2 years later.
On the other side is it possible that Tim Hardaway would just be better on a different team with a different set up for THJ? Is there a team out there that would take Hardaway in a draft void on 1st pick level SG's(although there are a ton of 2nd rounders) You get a player with two years experience--you get some bonafides with him--he has shown his good side there is no guessing with that--Timmy Hardaway on selective nights is very good. In a draft where 21 of the first 37 picks are projected to be 6-8 to 7-1--is it a move where we say maybe were better off smoothing out the team SG spots with free agents and move Timmy for a pick between 25-35 who is looking for a shooting guard? Hes salary restricted and matches $-$ a pick. I'm ok with keeping him on the mandate that he just has to step up and show some more consistency--do what he needs to do to get there. Having a pro PG would help--we still do not have one we need a pro QB who can help get better shots for different players. Id have to think hardawya s value last year was substantially higher but should we get the value that is remaining or stay the course?
