Hi, my name is Wolfgang from Germany. I'm a Knicks fan for 17 years now and my girlfriend gave me a big surprise to my 30th birthday some days ago. She gave me a 1 week trip to NYC, including some tickets to the last regular season game of the knicks against the pistons.
For me this is a dream come true. I've never been to NY or even saw a NBA game live.

Now I have a question for you guys and hope you can help me out.

Is there any chance to make some pictures or get autographs from the players, maybe before or after the game, or at the training facility??

I'm so excited and just want to get the best out of my vacation and hope you guys can help me out in any way. I'm happy for any help at all.

Just go to the arena as early as possible during shoot around and ask one of our lousy players to autograph something for you:)

viel Glück für Sie, mein Freund, und herzlich willkommen auf New York.

Thank God Fisher is no longer our coach, now let's get Calderon out of here:)

Volfie darlink,

My "Troll" radar is on high alert here but lets say your for real.
I'd contract Madison Square Garden and speak directly to a ticket sales person but basically I am unaware of any circumstance that mingle with fans is permitted.

Bad season to have a dream trip but the good news is you should be able to score some incredible seats at a good price. Might offset the strong dollar your traveling into.

Unfortunately I'm not trolling you guys. So what else would you recommend to do as a knicks fan in NYC? Seriously

what to do as a knick fan? See if there is a MSG tour of the arena.
If a basketball junkie, see if Nets are playing. They are "Trying" to get into playoffs and might be a meaningful game.
Great arena!

Check concerts, jazz clubs, restuarants, circle line boat tour..........im sure you can fine a 1000 things to do!!

You could always check out Clyde's restaurant Clyde Frazier's Wine and Dine. Doubt you'd have much of an opportunity to get autographs or pictures with any of the team unless you have a small child with you and you're sitting courtside. If it's a day game you could wait around outside MSG afterwards. I've run into a couple of players that way. Definitely signup for an MSG tour: http://www.thegarden.com/tours.html
Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

Also go to a Westchester Knicks game and get a Thanasis autograph and photo. You might have as much fun seeing that game as MSG since you'll be very close to the court.

^Good idea. You have a very good chance at getting an autograph from Thanasis in Westchester is the season is still in play. Better chance of getting an autograph on the floor in Westchester than the Garden where security is tight. Unless you get lucky and meet them before or after the game. Definitely do the Garden Tour & Clyde's place. Go to Central Park. Catch a Yankee game!

And if you like concerts check if any big acts are scheduled to play the Garden, Barclay or other venues in the New York/New Jersey area.

Visit the New Jersey shore and Atlantic City if you like casino resorts. You can take a bus or train from NYC

Jersey Shore and Atlantic City? Really? With all the amazing things to do in NYC, why go to those places? Yuck. Germans have much better beach vacations to take in Europe than to waste a day out of their week in those two places. If they want unique beach flavor in NYC, they might as well walk the boardwalk around Brighton Beach and Coney Island, get a knish and watch an 85 year old Russian do calisthenics in their track suit. That's a slice of NYC.

Hey Wolfgang,

Ive been in a similar situation like you a couple of years ago... though my girlfriend back then did not buy me tickets!!!
Im also a long time (1994) Knicks fan from Germany so first of all welcome to the UK, stay around and mingle! I appreciate any Euro flare in here! ;-)
No offence to the american guys keeping this forum so much fun! ;-)

Ive been to NYC four times now and to be honest... just take you time walking around Manhattan... its the atmosphere that is making this place so special especially to Euros like us since we do not have any place remotely similar to NYC. Its the architecture of the place... the feeling of standing in Central park... trees and squirells around you and still turning around you are surrounded by this crazy skyscraping skyline of the city.
I liked walking down the Highline park cause you kinda have a glimpse into NY backyards! ;-)

Brooklyn bridge is impressive for its view onto the skyline as well...

Go grab some baggles... next morning... go grab another kind of baggle... and so on! ;-)

Generally speaking many times NYC can make a somewhat dirty and unfriendly impression but if you do not get rattled by it and you just take things for what they are the ppl there are just real and generally really cool and some of the "dirtier" looking places provide the best food you will ever taste! ;-)

Just my 5 cent... have fun be open... enjoy the trip and marry that girl... she bought you tickets man!!!! ;-)

I havent lived in NYC for more than 20 years, but I used to love exploring the architectural history of the city. This site offers tours of the city you probably wont find with the bigger companies.

Don't go to any games.

Just post here about how much you hate that Melo guy. You will make many life long friends who will be buying you cheap imported beers that probably taste alot like your doberman's pizz. If you do manage to go to a game, don't forget to take a selfie giving Dolan the finger. Post it here and Splat will give you 500 marks. Or more, if your gf is hot.

When you return to Germany, please find the next Dirk Nowitzki for us.

Don't forget.

Alright, some decent recommendations here by our posters. Here are my 2 cents. There is nothing to see in New York if you have lived your whole life in a metropolis. If you come from the countryside then yes, you will have a great time walking around Manhattan , catching flies with your open mouth. But if you have seen one capital of a developed country you have seen them all. This advice comes from a person who has lived in Moscow for 14 years, then in New York (Queens-> Woodhaven) for 19 years, and now I live in a tiny town in Russia.

Now for the things to do in New York.
1. Try some real pizza. Any place you go to in the city will be better than most of the places outside of Italy itself. The one place i'd recommend is located at the "85th street-Forest Parkway" subway station in Queens. The subway station is on the corner and the pizza parlor is the 3rd store from the corner. Its called Sal's Pizza. Just ask someone when you are there.
2. Go to West 4th street Basketball court on a day when the weather is good. Its right outside the "West 4 street" subway station in Manhattan. Some great players there, you should have a blast. You might score a Knick autograph there as well, hehe.

Everything you have ever wanted is on the other side of fear- George Adair
