Off hand, I don't know of any big names out there. I do remember an article about a month ago stating that the assistant coaches wanted to open up the offense. Could be a good chance for Mike or Don.

Thoughts on the next coach?

What about Larry Bird....you think he would coach the Knicks?? He'll be a great adittion. What do you think?

I think Chaney should remain @ Head Coach. All the players know him and his system because it's so similar to Van Gundy's, and I also heard he wants to make it a 9-man rotation, which I think will help develop Lavor Postell.

I don't think a 9 man rotation will include Postell. Rather..

1.Jax
2.Ward or Eisley
3.Houston
4.Spree
5.Anderson
6.KT
7.Spoon
8.Othella
9.Camby

I think he oughtta include Knight and Postell in there.

Anyways, Chaney should coach the remainder of this season untill we get a new GM. The new GM should determine what coach will be our head coach. I don't really trust any of Layden's decisions.

From the DailyNews, regarding Don Chaney:
A look at new Knicks coach Don Chaney:

  • Has career record of 265-382 as head coach with L.A. Clippers (1984-87), Houston Rockets (1988-92) and Detroit Pistons (1993-95).

  • Won Coach of the Year in 1991 after leading Rockets to 52-30 record, an 11-game improvement from previous year.

  • Joined Knicks as assistant coach on Aug. 9, 1995. Has also been an assistant with Detroit (1980-83, 1992-93), Clippers (1983-85) and Hawks (1987-88).

  • Named to NBA All-Defense second team five times in 12-year career with Celtics and Lakers, and averaged 8.4 points. Also played one season with ABA's Spirits of St. Louis (1975-76).

  • Celtics' first-round pick in 1968 (12th overall) from University of Houston. n Won two NBA championships with Celtics (1969, 1974).

  • Born March 22, 1946, in Baton Rouge, La. Married with three children.

I think Chaney deserves a chance. If the Knicks do well this year, I think he should be considered for the permanent position. I like his attitude and demeanor. Not to knock JVG, but its sort of a refreshing change. Maybe the players will respond well to him as head coach.
