From ESPN:

Van Gundy Out as Knicks Coach

Jeff Van Gundy has resigned as head coach of the New York Knicks, the Associated Press reported on Saturday. The Knicks have scheduled a 2 p.m. ET news conference for today. The Knicks are 10-9 and in fourth place in the Atlantic Division. They are coming off an impressive win over the Bucks on Tuesday night.

This seems pretty serious, especially since it's straight off the homepage of espn.com. This guy did a lot of good for the team, but maybe it's time for a change. Maybe we'll get a coach that can run some plays for Camby and allow Sprewell and the rest of the guys to push the ball up the court faster. Either way, it seems for real so we'll just have to see what develops.

I don't believe this.

I know we didn't have the best of starts but we were just starting to pull it all together.

MAN!
We suck.

David Aldridge said Van Gundy told his players friday night he was stepping down for "family reasons." This isn't a good thing, but a change could help the team.

NY Daily News

Houston thought it was odd that Van Gundy was on the court to assist players who arrived early. As Houston began shooting with his coach, the two began an informal discussion about their lives away from basketball.

"It was good because Jeff and I rarely talk about anything other than basketball," Houston said. "But even as we were talking you could tell there is something bothering him."

Before taking a half-mile stroll to a roadside hot dog stand, Van Gundy told reporters, "It was just a disappointing practice. Some days are like that."

It certainly looks like it is something more than the lackluster practice that's behind this.
We suck.

IMO this is a very sad day for our franchise. We should all crack open a Diet Coke in remembrence of JVG. He did a great job for our ballclub and was one of the greatest coaches in Knickerbocker history. A change may be good for the team, but I think you may just find out how good a head coach Van really was. I want to wish Jeff the best of luck in the future.

Good luck to Jeff, especially good luck to Don Chaney. Let's hope he can get the Knicks trhough this rough patch.

Still, I can't believe JVG actually resigned instead of getting fired. His deal is what, two more years for 4 mil a year? At least he's not money hungry and I wish him all the best.

After Jeff was assistant here he turned into a pretty good coach so maybe they'll try to do the same with Chaney. For those of you who watch the game tonight, make sure to have your diet coke handy.

i dont think this really had anything to so with the team. i just think it was to much stress on him and he is a guy who only know perfection and he thought he couldnt not preform at that level anymore for what ever reason. Jeff was one of the hardest working coaches around and he always supported his players and i respected him greatly.

Man...Martin and I got home to hear the news. Bad for the Knicks in my opinion. I am a JVG supporter and thought he was right for the Knicks. This totally caught me off guard. Hopefully an inspiring sendoff will ensue in tonights game.

It was funny, we were at a sports bar and just caught the end of a clip that featured VG. No sound and Andy didn't know if the headline said re-signs with the team or resigns from the team
