Stack was moved form Detroit because he likes the ball. A lot.

He might not be into that chemistry thing we talk about. He is a nice fantasy numbers guy, but in the real world, he has yet to blend in.

Can he play off the bench? Can he play with Marbury? Can he play small forward? For that matter, we used to have an undersized SF last year.

We need to think that H20 returns, and need a solid back up. If he can do it, great.

People said the same exact things when the Knicks got Spree lol

Exactly, that's what I'm saying. If Stack is healthy he is not a declining one dimensional shooter. He can slash, dunk, handle and get others involved. If anything it adds a different dimension to our offense and more complementary skills. He can be a tad selfish and have an attitude sometimes but at 29/30 he still has 3 good years left and he has 3 years left on his contract.

If Stack was healthy its a no brainer to me. As for the situation in Det you have it all wrong. He was their first (and only) scoring option for awile. Funny thing happened. They asked him to pass more and get other guys involved. Stack did exactly that.. his rebs and assists when up, his scoring went down, the Pistons won 50 games (after losing 50 the previous year) and that offseason they traded Stack for Rip Hamilton. I guess the question is how many 30 year old wing players with bum knees do we need?

My only reservations are regarding his knees, not his game (when he's healthy).

I *do* love the idea of Sweetney immediatly movnig into a starting or much expanded role.

imo, the thought of having a 32 year old undersized PF w/no athleticism or post up game making $28 million over the next 4 years is not much of a loss...i say it's well worth the risk to get a former allstar G like Stack who's younger than Kurt to boot & can be a good insurance policy against Houston going down to another injury next season...the injury issues aside, i would still make this trade...even an injured Jerry Stackhouse still has more value in my eyes than a healthy Kurt Thomas.

hey, your probably right, and you know Idog KT.. I'm been sick of him for 3 years. If thats what he brings then great. Let these guys fight for minutes... that can go both ways. If guys play together its great, if guys start chucking tons of bad shots because they know they are only getting 20 minutes a game thats bad.

time will tell....

well, you can always still trade Stack i guess if it doesn't work out chemistry wise...we do know though, that keeping KT won't do this franchise much good going into the future.

damn Stack for Kurt...I'd love that. Even if it's just to use Stack as trade bait!
Damn! and Stack's only makes about 7mil and his contract is up after 2006-07!!

Are you sure thats a possibility? Sounds to good to be true.

How's this for an atheletic run and gun offense:
C-Sweetney
PF-TT
SF-Stack
SG-H20
PG-Steph

good point, TT does not like to rebound.

He would get killed at PF.

He would be crying nightly with his woopings.

This is a bad deal. People who say Stack has athleticism haven't watched him play. He is d-o-n-e . Kurt's hand was beat up late last year and is responsible for his drop off. If we get rid of some bad contracts.. that is the only good side of this deal.

KT for Stack? I would do it in a heartbeat.

What is KT going to do for us? NOTHING.

I think youre delusional and have not watched Knick basketball since 1998 when you say KT has done NOTHING for us. He's been a great, solid player who has been the heart many times when we had none. Jerry Stackhouse is a selfish, washed up dunker. Why did Philadelphia, Detroit and now Washington want to get rid of him? Why has Don Nelson said letting Kurt Thomas go was one of his biggest mistakes as a GM? Please. Stackhouse has numbers, but no heart or drive. Thats why players like him and Keith Van Horn get traded. Once the numbers subside, what are they? Not winners.

but who has more trade value....Kurt Thomas who we're problably can't trade for a top 20 pick or a Jerry Stackhouse who only makes 7 million? Who's at worst a 16pt, 5rebs, 5assists guy and awesome FT% and adequate FG%?

exactly...not to mention he's 2 years younger, has 1 year less remaining on his deal, & will always have more trade value than Kurt Thomas whether some people regard him to be invaluable to the Knicks or not...it's a smart trade imho...you can easily replace KT's role as an interior defender on this team through free agency...& is there anyone on this board who doesn't think Mike Sweetney could come in right now & put up close to 11 & 8 if given starter's minutes on a nightly basis?
