I think it is inevitable that Rose's injury will no longer be the player he once was and Butler will demand a max salary

If we are unable to attract a core of free agents to be contenders, would you guys consider absorbing contracts to take on picks, focus on development, and possibly ship out CA?
Instead of stretching Calderon, maybe take a gamble on Rose while taking a lot of picks back because Chicago's owner is really cheap and they will have to pay Butler if they want to compete
In draft night, make an agreement with Chicago

Calderon
$7,097,191 this years salary
$7,402,812 next years salary
$7,708,427 final years salary

Shved and expirings such as Acey/Larkin/Travis Wear
a trade exemption

for

Derrick Rose
$18,862,876 this year's salary
$20,093,064 next years salary
$21,323,252 Final years salary and if he does recover, could be an asset as an expiring

Picks incoming
===================
2015 first round draft pick from Cleveland
Chicago has the right to swap its 2015 1st round pick for Cleveland's 2015 1st round pick protected for selections 1-14 (if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Cleveland's obligation to Chicago will be extinguished) [Chicago-Cleveland, 1/7/2014]

2015 first round draft pick from Sacramento
Sacramento's 1st round pick to Chicago (via Cleveland) protected for selections 1-10 in 2015, 1-10 in 2016 and 1-10 in 2017; if Sacramento has not conveyed a 1st round pick to Chicago by 2017, then Sacramento will instead convey its 2017 2nd round pick to Chicago protected for selections 56-60 (if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Sacramento's obligation to Chicago will be extinguished) [Cleveland-Sacramento, 6/30/2011; Chicago-Cleveland, 1/7/2014]

2016 second round draft pick from Portland
Portland's 2016 2nd round pick to Chicago (via Cleveland) [Cleveland-Portland, 6/27/2013; Chicago-Cleveland, 1/7/2014]; Chicago may convey this pick to Orlando (see Chicago Debits)

Chicago's 2016 *they can trade this because they are swapping this summers pick only* or 2017 draft pick, and after

New York's 2015 2nd round pick to Houston [Houston-New York, 7/11/2012]

2016 second round draft pick from New York
New York's 2016 2nd round pick to Houston (via Portland to Sacramento then removal of protection from New York) [New York-Portland, 7/15/2012; New Orleans-Portland-Sacramento, 7/10/2013; New York-Sacramento, 8/6/2014; Houston-Sacramento, 9/17/2014]

2017 second round draft pick from Portland
Portland's 2017 2nd round pick to Houston [Houston-Portland, 7/10/2013]

In addition to all of these picks,
Houston owns could own ALL OF THEIR 1st rounders besides this summers 1st round pick going to the Lakers

They have some players like

Donatas Motiejunas and Terrence Jones both will have 2years left on the contract with the final year being "restricted FA's", next year's contract will be about 2.5m each. so combined at about 5m together
Corey Brewer about 5m and with KJ McDaniel's they could go cheaper
Kostas Papanikolaou about 5m UNGUARANTEED

Add in the picks salary for the picks as they would trade the 2015 1st rounders to us + 150% rule or/and some low salary players like Joey Dorsey/Pablo if needed

CA's contract
$22,458,401
$22,875,000
$24,559,380
$26,243,760

$27,928,140

Others possible moves include shipping out, that could be to Chicago or other teams that will give us 2nd rouders
=========================================================================================================================

Tim Hardaway JR
Early
Jason Smith

Acy, Larkin, and whoever is left....

Then ship out Carmelo Anthony to a contender *of course CA will have to agree since he holds a no trade clause* making Houston a realistic option since he would make more money in a Texas or Florida team
However, many of these teams in which CA would make more money could be realistic and they hold both young players and picks that we could get back, especially with Houston which owns many 3 of our NYk's 2nd rounders and own quite a few 1st rounders as well that are theirs and

http://hoopshype.com/salaries/new_york.htm#sthash.GF86u7Oq.dpuf

http://basketball.realgm.com/nba/draft/future_drafts/detailed

With whatever cap space/rose spots we have left, look to find quality YOUNGER players on cheap salaries that we could in return send back out on cap friendly salaries
We can still resign Cole Aldrich to a 2year deal with his early bird rights with 2nd year being a team option/unguaranteed for 3-5m in hopes of using his salary for future trades to acquire assets after we use all of our cap space left so we can have the FULL MLE *which will be about 6m, which we also could split on 2 players and on cap friendly deals that we can keep or repackage out in the near future as well*
The players incoming from Houston could be shipped our in the near future for picks as well in DMO, Terrene Jones, Cory Brewer, just like what Denver did with us for Felton/MosGoV/Wilson Chandler *could easily be traded if they wanted*

Lets not forget in the East, there are plenty of teams that have multiple draft picks and will improve much in the next couple of years
At this point, I think we must consider all options and think "outside the box", yet be realistic on how we can actually become contenders
This could lead us to many draft picks in this strong draft and set us up for multiple draft picks in the upcoming draft as well as many assets that we could also ship out for even more assets in the near future
While it would cost us our chance to build a contending team next summer, does anyone think we have enough to actually build pieces/salary room/talent to be a CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENDER or just enough to be a bottom seed play off team that is unlikely to ever pass the 2nd round....

If we manage to pull of both of these moves and get back many assets, we will still have enough money to go after a trio of ALL STAR level talents in 2017 when the CBA will rise 20m, when Durant/Noah/Lebron and many others will be UFA's on top of all the draft picks we will be developing and gaining from rotating talent around in the next year till then
While we will focus on PLAYER and COACH development on executing the philosophy of the Triangle and building experience with our coaching staff

So the picks I would be looking to acquire include

5 1st round picks
4 2nd round picks

Donatas Motiejunas, Terrence Jones, Cory Brewer, and Kostas Papanikolaou, that we could either keep for development as part of our future or likely ship out in the following year for either 1st rounders or 2 2nd round picks, maybe some instantly sent away if the price is right, meanwhile using our cap space to sign CAP FRIENDLY DEALS that we could be part of our future or also send out for future picks
If Derrick Rose recovers, maybe we even get a steal, and we get rid of Calderon's contract which is the same length
While that is unlikely, we would be putting ourselves in a similar position to what Boston/Denver has done in the recent years but by 2017 we will have lots of assets that we could use with our cap space to lure free agents over
On top of it, we do not know if CA will be the same player he was, but he doesn't have to be that player on Houston, he will have Harden to draw double/triple teams, multiple defenders to help him with D12 patrolling the paint

We can also sign Thanasis, Orlando Sanchez, and/or other D League prospects like Elliot Williams or undrafted FA's to 3year deal with team options like we did with Galloway, like Philly has done with Covington, Jerami Grant, Jakarr Sampson, Isaiah Canaan, Hollis Thompson, all to 3year deals, and a few others to the MINIMUM with upside to improve, also Tony Wroten/ bird rights of Thomas Robinson and Henry Sims with like 20 picks in the next couple of years with Noel/Embid, draft rights of Euro players

in 2017 there will be plenty of UFA's, some of which include

Durant
Lebron
Noah
Whiteside

and MANY OTHER FA's with the cap estimated to be over 80m, we could have our a couple of key pieces in this summer draft to start the development process with along with a few other picks and many upcoming draft picks/young players that we can fully utilize to build a contender for the next decade....

Triple Threat, with Butler demanding a max salary, this is a realistic scenario

Derick Rose is unlikely to be the player he once was and with the money invest in Gasol, Mirotic, and already invest in the amnesty of Boozer, they already went ALL IN in hopes of contending
When Derrick Rose is out of the lineup, Butler, Gasol, and Noah, will initate the OFFENSE together, while having a stronger defensive team without Rose

I do not think ANY OTHER team will be willing to roll the dice on Rose, what he has accomplished prior to his 3 major knee surgeries is totally irrelevent

We all know The Bull's owner, Jerry M. Reinsdorf, and Jerry Krause will do exactly that to save him money while still being a contending team

Basically Calderon and a bunch of expirings for Rose and their picks to take on Rose's contract
They are still one of the TOP DEFENSIVE teams and those players you mentioned are a BIG part of it, while Butler has evolved in to a 2 way max player that is sacrificing touches to satisfy Derrick Rose's ego
You can put money on it, all the games that Rose has missed, both Butler/Gasol has stepped up BIG time and they compliment each other very well in addition to Noah *who has also had his fair share of injuries*

Butler's strength is his size, especially at SG, while he has developed a legit respectable 3pt range, and he goes to the FT line or gets easy layups/dunks with Gasol playing the mid post with his passing ability and Butler's timely cuts
He no longer is the role player that he once was and with Tony Snell showing some signs as well at the G/F position to replace Butlers old role, maybe Dunleavey who is a big glue player of theirs that they may look to replace, also with Aaron Brooks/DJ AUGSITINE/Nate Robinson/John Lucas III or the next cheap FA PG/SG they acquire, a rotation of Calderon/Hinrich *player option*/E'Twaun Moore *team option* they will be just fine at the PG position

With Gibson, the develpoment Tony Snell and Mirotic, and McBuckets next year they will be just fine, in addition to Pau Gasol and Noah, they are SET, they just need consistency at the PG position that Derrick Rose can no longer provide

He is no longer the best player on the Bulls roster, by far Butler is the best Guard and Gasol should be initiating the OFFENSE more, and Noah should be utilizing his ability to pass/post/finish as well who also has developed his game much the past 2-3 seasons while Derrick Rose has been injured

Btw, TripleThreat, who are you really, I do not beleive that this is your one and only username on UltimateKnick's, who only logs on to respond to other posters
I have no time for trolls like you, a reason I did not bother to respond to your and the Draymond Green MAX post who believes players at the age of 24-26 all decline after, yet you praise Paul Pierce as a complete player who has done NOTHING till KG joined the Celtics
It is hilarious how you use your own theories when you want but deny/ignore your own philosophies whenever you want to praise Paul Pierce who according to you declined years before he was able to compete for a ring with the addition of KG
You will give low blows and cheap shots with your fake name and I will no longer respond to your BS posts with your fake ass name

Btw, the Paul Pierce praise really gives a great hint on who you are, along with your cheap shots at CA, do you like responding to your own post's with your other name?

There are also plenty of other "new" posters that love to log in only to troll and attack other posters, give your input on The Knicks and stop nit picking on other opinions while never offering any substance on how you think we can actually improve the team, so troll on, cause you are on my block list good bye

Adding on possible moves on how we can acquire multiple draft picks in this summers draft
Different ways on how we can retool for this draft and future drafts with these type of moves while possibly making trades on the final year of their contracts as expirings attacked with some assets for the class of UFA's of 2017

Ray McCollum
$816,482
$947,276

Jason Thompson
$6,037,500
$6,431,250
$6,825,000

Carl Landry
$6,750,000
$6,750,000
$6,750,000

Picks Kings owns
=====================
2018 second round draft pick from Portland
Sacramento has the right to swap its 2018 2nd round pick for Portland's 2018 2nd round pick [New Orleans-Portland-Sacramento, 7/10/2013]; Portland may convey the less favorable of these two picks to Denver (see Portland Debits)

Picks Kings is sending out
==================================
2015 first round draft pick to Chicago

2015 second round draft pick to Miami
Sacramento's 2015 2nd round pick to Miami protected for selections 31-49 and 56-60 (if this pick falls within either of its protected ranges and is therefore not conveyed, then Sacramento's obligation to Miami will be extinguished) [Miami-Sacramento, 2/20/2014]

2015 second round draft pick to Minnesota
Sacramento's 2015 2nd round pick to Minnesota (via Houston) protected for selections 50-60 (if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Sacramento's obligation to Minnesota will be extinguished) [Houston-Sacramento, 9/17/2014; Houston-Minnesota-Philadelphia, 12/19/2014]

2015 second round draft pick to Cleveland
Sacramento's 2015 2nd round pick to Cleveland (via Boston) protected for selections 31-55 (if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Sacramento's obligation to Cleveland will be extinguished) [Boston-Sacramento, 2/17/2009; Boston-Cleveland, 9/25/2014]

2016 second round draft pick to Oklahoma City
Sacramento's 2016 2nd round pick to Oklahoma City (via New Orleans) protected for selections 31-55 (if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Sacramento's obligation to Oklahoma City will be extinguished) [New Orleans-Sacramento, 1/11/2010; New Orleans-Oklahoma City, 2/19/2015]

2016 second round draft pick to Milwaukee
Milwaukee will receive the more favorable of Sacramento's 2016 2nd round pick protected for selections 56-60 and New Orleans' 2016 2nd round pick and New Orleans will receive the less favorable of these two picks (via Milwaukee's right to swap Sacramento for New Orleans) (if the Sacramento pick falls within its protected range, then Milwaukee's swap right and Sacramento's and New Orleans' obligations to Milwaukee will be extinguished) [New Orleans-Sacramento, 1/11/2010; New Orleans-Portland-Sacramento, 7/10/2013; Milwaukee-Sacramento, 7/12/2013]; this pick conveyance is the same as the one described in "2016 second round draft pick from New Orleans" on Milwaukee Credits

2017 second round draft pick to Cleveland
Sacramento's 2017 2nd round pick to Cleveland (via Boston) protected for selections 31-55 (if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Sacramento's obligation to Cleveland will be extinguished) [Boston-Sacramento, 2/24/2011; Boston-Cleveland, 9/25/2014]

2019 second round draft pick to Philadelphia
Philadelphia will receive the more favorable of Milwaukee's 2019 2nd round pick and Sacramento's 2019 2nd round pick and Sacramento will receive the less favorable of these two picks (via Philadelphia's right to swap Milwaukee for Sacramento (via Brooklyn to Philadelphia)) [Milwaukee-Sacramento, 7/12/2013; Brooklyn-Milwaukee, 6/30/2014; Brooklyn-Philadelphia, 10/24/2014]; this pick conveyance is the same as the one described in "2019 second round draft pick from Milwaukee" on Philadelphia Credits

ANY Picks that are not shown being sent out that are owned by the Sacremento Kings, are owned by the team
========================================================================================================================
So currently their 1st round pick is protected 1-10, Cleveland could own their pick or they could still own it *still could depend on the draft balls*
If the draft pick is picks 11 or later, it would go to Cleveland, if it is before it will be owned by Kings
If makes it complicated to make a trade with the Kings, since they will owe Bulls/Cleveland a pick that is protected 1-10 through 2017 if not by 2017 it becomes a 2nd round pick that is protected 56-60 and extinguished otherwise
2015 first round draft pick to Chicago
Besides the 2019 second round pick to Philly,
basically ALL of the 2nd round picks that they have sent out in trades will NOT likely be conveyed, therefore we can likely trade with them, removing their protections for absorbing the contracts of

Ray McCollum
$816,482
$947,276

Jason Thompson
$6,037,500
$6,431,250
$6,825,000

Carl Landry
$6,750,000
$6,750,000
$6,750,000

or

Maybe even just Rudy Gay

$19,317,326
$12,403,101
$13,333,333
$14,263,566 *player option*

So I would be looking 2 1st round picks, one of which could be TOP 10 in this summers draft and some of their 2nd round picks, of which are predicted to be HIGH/MID range rounders in this summers draft and the next couple of years to take on the contracts of the above players
If we do not get a top 10 pick and it goes to Cleveland this summer, I would be looking at 3 draft picks to absorb the above contracts, along with some 2nd rounders

In addition to the other moves I posted in the Derrick Rose and Chicago trade, along with trading CA in the summer to a contender, I believe we will be able to replenish the lack of assets that we have traded away, utilizing our cap space to rebuild with mainly this year's strong draft and future draft picks along the way, while focusing on player development and coaching/executing the Triangle which will take years to do for Fisher to gain the experience needed *as he is NOT Phil Jackson, maybe bringing in Brian Shaw who is unlikely to resign with Denver as a high payed lead assistant coach to help Fisher, while demoting Rambis to an assistant, and spending some money on trainers and development coaches like
Development Coaches
==========================
Rasheed Wallace/Horace Grant, especially Rasheed Wallace's whos game could translate well in todays game with his ability to post up, shoot the 3pointer, play defense/shot blocking/rebounding/using his body to fight for position, along with Grant who has experience in the Triangle and is still in great shape
Ron Harper or Billups *help our PG's execute in the triangle system and Billups has the same skill set and could also be a very good shooting coach as well*
Kapono *who could be our shooting coach*
Shane Battier/MWP/Scottie Pippen to work on our DEFENSE

Spend money on the BEST TRAINERS and equipment money can buy
====================================================================
Sports Science has improved dramitically and there are so many different philosophies on how to build strength while NOT giving up stiffness/speed/mobility
Especially if we draft Karl Towns who is extremely raw and I think could be Rasheed Wallace's project along with some improved trainers to motivate and constantly work on their games every day
Town's has the highest upside/ceiling but lacks maturity and motivation, if we can acquire many draft picks in this summers draft to go with our pick, so be it

For us to be Championship Contenders we will need to stack up plenty of draft picks
==========================================================================================
Trading for CA would need to be done first for us to trade with The Kings and the lowest I would take for CA would be #1 1st rounder if it is the Pelicans and all 3 of our 2nd round picks in addition to a combination of talents like
Donatas Motiejunas, Terrence Jones, Cory Brewer, and Kostas Papanikolaou *unguaranteed contract*, all of these players could be shipped out in the near future, possibly right away just like Denver did when they raped us in the trade who was able to get a 1st rounder for Felton, 2 1st rounders in MoSgoV, and easily can trade Wilson Chandler if they want and if Gallo's injuries are done, he could possibly be traded for a pick as well, on top of the 60m we helped them save in salaries/taxes that year, and 1 1st round pick, 1 swap 1st rounder, and 2 2nd round picks that were Golden State's *at the time were projected to be HIGH 2nd rounders*
I simply do not believe that we will be Championship Contenders and admitting it and cutting ties with CA to a contender, while collecting as many young players/draft picks as we can to the highest bidders to free cap space instead refocus on doing a true rebuild, while signing cap friendly deals that we can either develop to be part of our roster in the future or/possibly sell high/rotate as assets in the next couple of years
In 2017, all these guys along with the players I suggested in my other post, will be expiring deals and we will have the cap space to sign them with the rise of the salary cap or force a trade like we did with CA in 2010, while we will have many more assets if all goes well, especially if we are able to execute a trade with Houston with CA in the summer
If Derrick Rose does recover, just maybe he could return to a 2nd tier STAR status that could be part of our future or be shipped out as a positive asset
Regardless, there are too many teams that are way ahead of us in terms of future draft picks and multiple young players already that will be our competitors
I do not see us being good enough to be LEGIT Championship contenders this summer and this is on draft day we could make some moves that could make us legit contenders a few years from now, for the next decade after
At the best, we could be bottom seed in the East if we decide to sign talents like Monroe and/or whoever, while having a short window on winning with CA's injury being a huge question mark
He lacks leadership to begin with, lacks the ability to create shots for his team mates, and is not a lock down defender or even a good defender
After this surgery he will only get slower and less athletic, likely making him a PF that lacks shot blocking ability on top of it
He isn't a player to be the #1 player to build around at his salary but if he joins a team stacked with talent, even despite his max salary, he could still be a great shooter with a player like Harden drawing double/triple teams, leaving him wide open shots
For CA to be successful to a Championship contender, he need to play with enough talent to allow him to play with the role he did in TEAM USA, which we are unable to do with our lack of draft picks and limited salary
If he is traded to a team like Houston, where there is no STATE tax and he has the trade kicker, he will make much more money and play with the talent needed to contend, making it a win win for both parties
It will be a process, maybe sign Jeremy Lin to a cap friendly deal in the meantime to keep fans coming at decent ticket prices, while being honest in the approach we need to take for the better of the team for the next decade

With teams like Philly and Boston having about 20 picks each in the next 3 years in addition to some high ceiling prospects, we would be following in their foot steps, similar to Orlando when they traded D12 and were able to acquire Vucevic who was a steal in addition to drafting Olindipo and drafting Elfrid Payton who is an upcoming triple double threat with good defense and great size at the PG position similar to Gary Payton, The GLOVE, and if he is able to develop a decent shot/3pter he will have a very good career
While those teams have many young talents/draft picks, if we are able to acquire multiple picks in this draft and replenish picks in future drafts from trades like this and my other posts, we will be able to attract AND KEEP those talents, unlike small market teams
Imagine if we are able to draft our own high potential ceiling players like Westbrook, Durant, Harden, Ibaka, we would be able to KEEP ALL OF THOSE talents and stay in the luxury because we are the MECCA with Dolan's willingness to pay the tax to KEEP THE TALENT, with fans willing to pay top dollars for tickets, beers, and snacks/food, in adddition to Dolan owning his own TV network, profitting much more if we are able to build YOUNG Championship Contenders for the next decade

You're saving them about 8 or 10 mil each of the next two years? What picks did you have coming to us in the proposed trades?

Well, the standard seems to be 1 1st round pick *also depends on the range of the pick* for 8m + to 12m a year
So it will be agreed upon on draft night and we will know by then what draft pick they will have and if they have any interest in any of these other players with a positive value, if NOT then just give salary dumps....
I would be looking for some combination of the above, IF they have interest and they give us positive value I would also throw in Tim Hardaway JR, Cleathony Early, along with whatever they might have interest in like Jason Smith *sign and trade* etc

Both Derrick Rose and Calderon will have 2 years left on their current deals each
Also would be sending back contracts that are expiring *have qualifing offers that the team DOES NOT have to pick up that are NOT guaranteed if sent out on draft night*
Essentially they are expirings, contracts like

Calderon
$7,402,812 next years salary
$7,708,427 final years salary

rest being NON GUARANTEED contracts, possibly a trade exemption to match salaries IF NEEDED
So they would save roughly about 26m + total, 13m a year, and I would be looking it some combination of draft picks, obviously if King's are NOT TOP 10, their draft pick would hold more value
Bulls get the better of the Cleveland/Chicago pick as well
Then there are also Chicago's 2016 1st rounders and after
Along with Porland's 2016 2nd round pick and Chicago's 2nd rounders 2017 and after
So dependent on what picks Chicago gets and if they receive The King's pick, I would be looking for some combination of draft picks using McGee's trade as the standard measure, maybe even a bit more since Rose's contract is bigger and we are saving them more than 12m per year and we can almost expect Rose to continue to get injured *possibly we could get a injury exemption at some point worth 1/2 his salary at some point if he gets injured during the season and it is for the season when we acquire him or if he happens to bounce back we may "get lucky" though it is highly unlikely judging from his history

Shved
Travis Wear
Acy
With the rest being trade exemptions

As listed in the post,
essentially Chicago would be saving about 13m per year if they have no interest in ANY of the players

I believe that is worth more than 2 1st round picks that are LATE 1st rounders, I mean if McGee can get a draft pick that is predicted to be in the early 20's from OKC due to the injuries of Westbrook/Durant
For the rest of this season's prorated season and next year's salary at 12m

At this point, I DO NOT see Derrick Rose as a positive trade value with 3 injuries now and especially at his contract of over 40m in the next 2 seasons, I see it as a negative value
If another team is willing to take less for "the former MVP" then Good Luck to them but that is what I would need back if I was Phil Jackson

Derrick Rose Salary for next 2 seasons (not including this seasons as trade deadline has passed already and they used their amnesty on Boozer already)
$20,093,064 next years salary
$21,323,252 Final years salary and if he does recover, could be an asset as an expiring

Calderon
$7,402,812 next years salary
$7,708,427 final years salary

rest being a combination of expirings and trade exemptions IF needed, if they prefer other players above, like Tim Hardaway JR, I would have to add a bit more value

Chicago Picks incoming
=============================

Chicago's 2017 2nd round picks and after

great work on the research but rose isnt being traded
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better
Swap with Chicago Bulls
