I don't care if we got shaq at 22 years old. If your defnsive head is jose calderon you have very little chance to win games. The knicks need to cut bait and stretch his contract out and let him move on. This league is a pg based league now jose is simply to slow for the modern high quality pg the number 1 reason we got killed last night jose got abused by their 1-2-3pgs look at their culmative stats we won't win with jose next year

You wait and see if you need the cap space first- why would you give up young players when you don't even know if you need the space? Some of you are Dolan esq in your knee jerk reactions!

There are plenty of good players you can get for his salary and plenty of trade advantages to being under the cap. There's not such thing as not needing the cap space. You have to jump at any opportunity you get to get rid of his contract. You can't wait.

We don't need an asset to get rid of him we can simply stretch nis contract and release him

If Jose is still here....theres a reason. You have to think bigger than his on court performance. Jose is one of the few players with inside connections with the Gasol brothers. He's the only bait we have to landing Gasol. There's probably an inside connection we don't know about. IF we get Gasol next season, then Jose's contract and trade was well worth it. Phil's plan is to cut salary. Why save 300K on Pablo, when he could've saved a lot more cutting Jose. Theres a reason behind the madness......And usually fans do not have the same insight.

Gasol isn't coming here and it makes no sense to stretch and waive until next season.

This season was a failure though this failure is likely landing us a TOP 3pick that would be a big part of our franchise moving forward

I was totally against JUST running the Triangle with players that simply will not be part of our roster moving forward
With players that have developped habits for many years and will have to change these habits of many 30year olds

We have done this so many times in the past decade, trying to play with a system/philosophy while NOT having the personnel to do so like for Larry Brown, Dantoni, and now The Triangle
Early this season ,just didn't make sense, we had shooters, post presence, and the same core of players to execute a PnR/traditional OFFENSE with shooters

We could have slowly incorporated the Triangle while running philosophies off it and just emphasize teamwork, ball movememnt, movement off the ball, picks both on and off the ball
Had we done so, just maybe JR Smith, Tyson Chandler *had we kept him*, Iman Shumpert, Tim Hardaway JR, etc would have all greater trade values, instead we tried to exectue a system without the tools/personel to do so that players will not be part of our roster

There is a big difference between Phil Jackson coaching the Triangle, Kerr Coaching *who prepared himself for many years for this day*, and Fisher *who realized he had an opporutunity to make 2-3x more than he did as a player* and his staff

Besides CA
maybe Calderon *because we are unable to move him*
*Galloway was picked up halfway*

No one will be part of our future moving forward and Tim Hardaway JR went from being the highest potential trade player to a complete bum in which we could have drafted Gobert when we already had Iman and JR Smith here
Instead of trading for AB, we could have used the 1st rounder/2 2nd rounders to target a ALL STAR *add in another 1st rounder* or combine these assets to go for Giannnes Antekenkboo or some picks for this years draft
There so many things we could have done with these assets but we went for a position/player that was our deepest

I think we will recall a couple more players from our D League Knick's with Thanasis especially Orlando Sanchez, maybe Ben Strong, and a few other D Leaguer's like Elliot Williams

Galloway, Orlando Sanchez, and Thanasis all will be at least cheap rotational players moving forward while we have to find some GOOD/GREAT talents with our cap space/exemptions/2015 1st rounder and future picks/cash *possibly to get in this years draft*

Calderon is still a good point guard. He was brought here cuz he can shoot and take care of the ball. He's doing that. He looks bad cuz the players around him aren't very good. Calderón has never been an attacking point guard and he's not comfortable looking for his own shot. If the Knicks can improve the talent around him, his game will translate better.

at the same time, waiving him and stretching his contact sound like a great idea if it came down to it.

Hardaway looked good last night. Hopefully he just needed the trade deadline to pass and to know that if he doesn't play on both ends he isn't an automatic starter. Nothing is happening until the offseason. If Calderon has a good run maybe he becomes more attractive or is a player the knicks want to keep.

I just don't believe we should stretch Calderon, he was not brought here to be Westbrook

Our team sucked and neither CA or Calderon could have done anything about it

If we stretch Calderon, we gain about 3.5m-4m of cap space to use, while we could use his salary in future trades if we need to add up salaries
THe cap space that we gain is insignifigant, unless we already have a group of players we are targetting together that will elevate us to contenders
It is unlikely regardless of that happening with the way this roster is assembled and the trades that just went down this past deadline

Think about it, you cannot blame Calderon for our lack of cap space

If we stretch him, we only gain about 4m to use, and we lose the ability to use his contract to match salaries in our future for potential trades
Assuming we stretch him out in the summer, it would be for 5years while his contract would only have 2 more seasons left after this seasons
The money that we gain is not going to make a difference unlesss 2-3 players are willing to go to NYK while taking less while NYK has one of the higher TAXES teams and the real ecstate makes the cost of living so much higher, it is a reason why we constantly have to overpay for talent

If we stretch him out this season, it would be for 7 seasons, but it would be about for the same amount of money
Finding a shooter that could handle the ball, provide some leadership/control tempo, spread the floor, and help mentor our future young guys with intangibles is needed

Our problem is our lack of overall talent, look at JR Smith, Iman Shumpert, Tyson CHandler, they are all good players and could be part of a good team, problem was they didn't FIT in with our team

If you have to point a finger at contracts, it certainly is not Calderon, it is CA
We just have to hope that CA will not be the next Allan Houston, STAT, Kobe, Wade *right now not the past Wade* etc after this surgery

The whole point of CA *taking less this upcoming Summer* was because both Phil Jackson and CA thought they were going to be able to attract talents to come over in FA this upcoming summer
This is unlikely with the way things have shaken up and if a team is still willing to trade for CA, he certainly should consider it with Phil Jackson while he can still contribute as a 3rd option/even 6th man role on a very Championship Caliber team stacked with talent like Houston

CA will get likely have to cut his minutes and usage down to prolong his career at his age after major surgery but he has to let his EGO go
With Harden getting all the attention with double triple teams, CA will get WIDE OPEN LOOKS with Howard and Smith in the paint
More importantly CA will get more money with no STATE TAX and even a trade kicker, while playing with Harden playing as the #1 option, D12 patroling the paint, and many good wing defenders

With the addition of depth of Houston with Josh Smith, defenders like Ariza, Beverely, KJ McDaniels *making Brewer expendable to fit CA's salary, while resigning him part of MLE or early bird rights with vet min*
Dwight Howard to control th paint and will need to be healthy but they have a lot of GOOD DEFENDERS on the wings and PG with Beverely *though they could also trade him to us and find cheaper options with Harden basically playing point guard anyway*

Outging players, some of which just to match salaries

DMO - has really improved his post up game and fit well in our system while working with Hakeem

Brewer
Terrence Jones

Beverely in a sign and trade as a RFA who Houston may decide to go cheap in as they have done so every year in the past couple seasons, especially with the way Harden plays as the POINT anyway to match salaries if needed
Koustas Pap *non guaranteed contract of 5m + each season*, once a Knick, always a Knick in which he was drafted by us

ALL OF THESE PLAYERS above could have decent trade value and could be repackaged in the near future for 2nd rounders and maybe even 1st rounders if they fill out right

Terry in a sign and trade *with team options on 2nd/3rd year* just to fit in salaries

and a good amount of 1st and 2nd rounders *all of which are owned by us in past trades* in the next 3 years

Calderon at some point actually had some value, I urge patience. Especially since the free agent pool looks less and less impressive. I really don't see us putting together a solid squad this offseason by adding the likes of Monroe or Milsap.

Dude, seriously? Get a grip; Gasol will NOT come to NY. Not with an unproven coach like Fisher. If Phil were coaching, I would say that we would have an excellent chance to ge him here.

Thank God Fisher is no longer our coach, now let's get Calderon out of here:)

If we truly want to win next season, we can't afford to go with Calderon as our starting PG. He can't defend to save his life and certainly doesn't have the foot speed to beat the opposing PGs in the league.

You don't get rid of him until you've lined up a replacement- there are very few PG options this offseason now.

Gasol won't come here, but I think the original thinking was Calderon may make us a more attractive option to him. The problem is the Griz went on to have their best season ever.
