Would be good to make a deal to avoid repeater tax. RT @ESPNSteinLine: Knicks now just $2,864,685 over tax line after Stoudemire buyout.

I doubt it- we haven't got any salary left to trade out. The sum for being $3mil over is pretty small, plus we won't be over the cap next season or the season after, so the repeater tax in't a problem to just pay it this year (then the clock gets re-set).

I just don't get how stuff works sometimes -- we knew there were quite a few teams interested in Stoudemire (the Mavs, the Clippers), yet he's bought out and Bargnani remains. How does that work exactly? We couldn't have gotten anything for Amar'e? A trade exception? Anything? Unlike Bargs, teams wanted STAT. The Mavs wanted both STAT and Jermaine O'Neal. Now I'm hearing O'Neal's not ready for a comeback. Wouldn't that make you believe that Amar'e has even more value to the Mavs, a win-now team looking for vet frontcourt help? I think buying out STAT before the deadline was suspect -- maybe Cuban would buckled and we could've gotten something for him. Who knows -- maybe there wasn't a salary match for a trade...Just hate to see that a team wanted one of our guys and we just release him and get nothing out of it.

No, Amar'es salary was $22mil- way too much for a team to match in salary being sent back to us.

Just amended my thoughts. You're right. I think that was the issue..

It's shame, would have been nice to get something back, but that contract was a monster!

So who did the Mavs wind up releasing to make room for STAT -- was it Ledo or Greg Smith?

Edit: OK, just reading it was Ledo. You know what -- I'm interested. The kid's young, has very good size, talent and upside. I think he's flat out a better talent than THJ. Scoop him up, Phil. If only for the rest of the year just to see.

Ledo. I wonder if the Knicks will sign him after the deadline. Tim Frazier or Elliot Williams also should be candidates. Just saw on twitter that Larkin isn't practicing. Knicks are saying he is sick. Williams would be a nice pick up if spots open up.

All 3 would make nice additions. Good call. Frazier didn't look like much coming out of Penn State but it looks like he's really honed his quarterback skills in the DL. Dude's become quite the little floor general out there. kid can really dish the rock. Gets everyone the ball, gets everyone involved. I personally like Bryce Cotton's offensive skills and overall game a little more, but this Frazier can play.
