He's going to be a free agent and has expressed his desire to come home.

Can the Knicks really be good with melo and Tobias in the same 4/3 position? They are the same player basically. Supposedly they loved playing together over the summer in pick up games.

As far as the pro game and trying to play within a system....not sure how it translates. Tobias could slide into the role Jason smith has and probably be better overall but i can't see how he fits defensively. Knicks would need a good center to play with them and a good guard to make it happen out on the perimeter and get to the basket. Any thoughts?

For $7mil a year I'd take him, but the only way he leaves the Magic is if he'd over paid (otherwise they will just match the contract). He's just average. Plus signing him means you're committed to Melo at PF- despite the popularity of that, I don't like it.

I would take him for pick 5/6 and Melo in a S+T but nothing else--he plays the same position as Melo.

Plus when was the last time a player really wanted to come here and it ended well? It's like a curse! Think the last one was MWP!

I'd rather target Khris Middleton

Is Middleton URFA or RFA?? I like him and what he's doing for the Bucks.

I was wondering that myself- he seems to have a $1.1mil qualifying offer for next season, so I'm guessing Bucks will be able to match any offers, however, Knight is up for a big pay day, so that may deter them

tobias harris is probably the best RFA out there... he's about as close to a young melo that there is...

it wouldn't be the greatest fit but i think we could make it work... it makes more sense if we decided to build around the draft pick and harris instead of melo tho which i would be all for...

I suppose if you luck out with the more established players (Wes, Dragic, whoever), maybe it's worth taking a chance on young players with upside (Reggie Jackson, Tobias, Monroe)- very risky as they have serious flaws, but I guess you gamble that they improve. Hmm...

jackson is not in the class of harris or even monroe...

harris in terms of age and impact is probably the best out there at the moment... magic might go a different direction with gordon... he will get max from someone and he's one of the only ones that could potentially outplay that deal...

He isn't, but really the only free agents we've had success with recently were, I'd say (at a push) Jamal Crawford, and before that Alan Houston- both were young with upside. It's a crap shoot, and I'd rather get some vets, but it would be interesting to see as a fall back option.
