Although more talented players like former All-Stars Allan Houston and Penny Hardaway were left unprotected by the Knicks, bench-warmer Cezary Trybanski will have the highest chance of having his name called in the NBA's upcoming expansion draft. It is presumed by most NBA insiders that neither Houston nor Hardaway, though clearly more talented than Trybanski, will be selected by the Bobcats. ESPN writer Chad Ford writes "[Charlotte GM Bernie] Bickerstaff [has] made it clear the team is looking for young, athletic players. It will shy away from veterans in the expansion draft, especially those with huge contracts." Clearly both Houston and Hardaway fall under the category of veterans with huge contracts. Trybanski, a young, cheap 7 footer could be just what the Bobcats are looking for. Knicks fans might worry about losing Trybanski's tradeable expiring contract, but the Knicks will receive a trade exception equal to his 2004-2005 salary, roughly $1.76 million.
if Isiah manages to get a decent player out of Charlotte picking Trybanski in the expansion draft, that will make that Marbury trade look even better when you combine it w/the rumors that Milos also will not be coming to play in the NBA next year.
