I'd agree, and thought as much at the beginning of the season- and thought as much with our moves leading up to 2010- that we'd be stuck in a 10 year rut of mediocrity.
I think Phil may in fact realize this - per his comments about building. I don't think any of the big name FA will jump ship this off season - they seldom do.
We need to be smart - and we need to keep our flexibility. I'd rather start the season closer to the floor than the ceiling as far as the salary cap goes.
If we had one potential franchise talent in the draft and one really good, impact FA, and fill in with super hungry role players/support players that are smart, get the system and buy in- then I think that is successful and we may be on our way to being competitive, and perhaps with some flexibility from the FO & Fisher on our 'System', we could be a .400-.500% win team, and perhaps be in contention for the final slot in the east, barring any changes on format.
