I noticed this in several games. He comes out really involved and usually has 75% of his game action stats in that first Q. He's played well Im happy with his play but he doesnt seem he can sustain it for anywhere near close to what a 36 minute guy can.

I think an Anjica Smith would be the basis of a very nice combination C--each guy with around 24 minutes.

I agree, he's not a 36 mpg guy. But he has been a nice surprise and his potential in the triangle is really coming together. And having him kill in the 1st quarter isn't a bad thing. It takes pressure off of Melo so he can coast more until the 4th. Besides the disappearing acts i love what Smith has been doing for us. He looks like a guy who can be a solid 2nd or 3rd big man for us in a 24-28 mpg role.

He will have to up his off season regime and take it to a higher level. Smith probably came into the season thinking he is only a 15 minute player at best. With the amount of PT he is getting I think he will see this as an opportunity to become more than a 10-15 minute role player and come in better shape and with better stamina.

Thats why Id like to get Anjica--I think with Smith and Anjica we would be set at the C position.

He's on a 1 year deal. He is likely gone after this season

If he continues this surge, i think he is resigned for 4M or so a year.

Yeah, it's not that surprising. He missed most of last season recovering from knee surgery. It's hard to replicate game conditions in the off season. He'll get better, barring another injury. He'd still better suited playing 20 to 25 mins a game tho.

He might be a guy that playoff teams show interest in. He is becoming a tradable asset, maybe he can be sent to a contender with Calderon. If he survives the trade deadline, I don't think it's a lock we resign him next year. It's not that we won't want to, but while we chase FA's he will be getting offers from other teams

Jayson Smith needs to be traded. He is not starting material. As a backup center, I won't mind keeping him.

He is a terrible defender, and a very weak rebounder

Thank God Fisher is no longer our coach, now let's get Calderon out of here:)

but he serves a purpose utilized correctly, everyone on this roster are in the wrong roles. Other than melo, no ones a starter

Melo is starter and finisher... all the rest are inbetweeners...

Ok but he's not gonna be a 36 minute per player if he stays with us after this year.

Don't think the guy was brought here to player starter's minutes. Coming off an injury, and in about 5 or 6 games he will have played more minutes than he has ever played before, and there we still have a good chunk of the season remaining.

Good shooter, decent passer, moves the ball around well, average defender at best, and a below average rebounder for a big man. He's even shown an ability to hit a 3 every now and then. He and Calderon seem to have some good on court chemistry.

I think he's been a pretty decent pickup, and I expect Jackson to attempt to resign him.

I'm not able to understand some of the folks who really seem to hate him. He may not be a starter in the future, but I think he can be an important contributor on the second unit, playing 15-20 MPG, and occasionally more.

I think we can great value by resigning Smith and adding Anjica--I think you can have both players for around 7mm combined. To me this makes sense. One 7 footer who can play 4-5 with a nice mid range to 3 touch and a 7-1 guy with a 7-9 wingspan who can post block shots rebound with upside at 26 yrs old.

smith should stay, a guy who can hit the jumper like he can and drop a couple of dimes would be helpful to us. Plus,we have few on this roster that can hit a mid range jumpshot so that is why i think he will stay.

I agree ... he aint going anywhere.

If our offense is gonna generate lots of mid range shots then we should have someone who can hit them.

so here is what phil is thinking ....
