Calderon for T.Robinson and D.Wright (waive Larkin) - frees up cap space at end of season

If Draft Towns/Okafor - try to sign PG - G.Dragic. If Draft Mudiay or Russell - try to sign Center - B.Wright, D.Jordan or Kanter

Sign FA (Gerald Green) to reasonable deal

(In Offseason) Offer Melo and Hardaway Jr for J.Butler (resigned), T.Gibson and pick 18 (select R.Christmas/PF) - if we're going after 2nd tier players, we don't need Melo for recruiting. We'd be better off trading him for Kobe - at least he could teach the young players the triangle system for one year.

Possible Roster

Towns (Aldrich - resigned, Christmas)
Gibson (Acy, Wear)
Green (Early, Greek)
J.Butler (Galloway)
Dragic (Larkin - resigned or cheap FA, Prigs)

Realizing the Melo one is a longshot - thoughts about the other 3 moves?

I like it, a young team that's easy to root for. Just like before the melo trade but with more hope, sign me up.

I dont think we are trading Melo--he needs to clean up his knee and then perform back at that 28-9-4 level before I would entertain either keeping him or selling him. Id like to keep him if it was me.

Id like to get one of the top 4 guys whether Towns Russell Okafor etc.. thats step 1

Id love to snag a Christmas--I actually have him going in the lottery myself and another guard out of the draft. I think what I put was something like htis

Draft

Towns or Okafor 1-3
Christmas 23 back
Harvey 23 back
(maybe find one more SG undrafted?)

Free agency

Resign Jason Smith 3 years 10mm(3.3)
Sign Alexis Anjica 4 years 15mm(3.8)
Sign Dragic 4 years 52mm (13)
Aaron Brooks 1 year 2.5mm
Rest best available SG for 1 year.

So, ignore your melomove, although that amounts to 2 starters on your possible roster?

Great, yet another poster who doesn't undertand the incredible intricasies of the no trade clause.

Melo wouldn't go to Chicago for $100M with Butler And Gibson on the team, but now wants to go to Chicago for 100M without Butler and Gibson. to play with Mr. Maybe, the End of Pau and Noah.

Your other three moves amount to ping pong balls, signing FA's for the bench and Gerald Green. I heartily agree.

I'm more curious to know what makes you think Mr. DNP Cole gets resigned?

The thinking on our end is that trying to rebuild with a 30 year old 1 dimensional star is more difficult than committing to youth or going with vets. Since there are no guarantees we can acquire the right fit (needed next to Melo) in a 2-3 window of time - it makes more sense to try to acquire 2nd tier stars/players with whom we could develop with our draft pick. Chicago seems to be the only team he would consider waving his no trade clause for, and while he believes in Phil - may grow inpatient with our limited progress and slow timeline. We have won 10 games, and since Phil is not suggesting he would trade our draft pick for a vet, and that he plans to change the roster at a healthy/slower pace (good btw) - the odds increase for Melo's unhappiness. If he could do it over again, I suspect he would have signed with Chicago. He's probably trying to "do the right thing", but will that last after next year (when maybe we've won 30 games)? Not saying it can't work with him, but seems like we should be operating from a greater probability perspective.

Signing a Brandon Wright and Gerald Green could be cost effective moves - both players young and relatively affordable.

Believe Phil likes Cole most likely as a backup - but he's probably the best we have right now. He may look even better next to an Okafor if we luck out. Think he understands/fits the triangle pretty well - let's see what he ends up costing...

Briggs - like Christmas, Anjinca as well - not sold on Jason Smith yet. A.Brooks on the cheap could be great if he can learn the triangle
