The guys Finestrng likes Jaymichael Green is #2 and Curry #4. Why don't we just cut Amare--let him go to the team he likes and grab Green? We need to let it fly--we have 40 games to go--I have zero understand what a 32 year old Lou Amundson is doing here? Can anyone give me a clue??

Wow Seth Curry is shooting 53% from 3 point land on over 7 attempts a game. The bottom line is the 3 pt line in the D league and the nBA are the same.

You have 23 year old Green at an athletic 6-9 230 and Curry at 24 years old

can someone give me a reasonable answer why we snagged Lance Thomas and Lou Amundnson? These guys are 29 and 32???? What value do they bring to a 5-35 club? I guess PJ has his type's of player and wont deviate even if the potential talent is there.

how many guys on our roster right now would make it on the top ten list if they were in the NBDL?

These guys won't stick; they're only temporary band-aids.
They're warm bodies with no future with us.

Amundson =Insurance for Melo shutting down and helps the tank
Thomas = good clubhouse guy veteran presence and mentor; agent favor owed?

Agree that we should've tried a top rated D leaguer instead,
but trust Phil has a reason why these guys (Curry, Green) are not here now.
If they are worth a shot, why isn't anyone else jumping on them?
Not concerned.

Agree on Amundson... waste. Dont see the point. Thomas might be OK.

Its still a bit early. Talk to me after the trade deadline. I agree with everything you said Briggs. I dont know what the logistics are with these contracts and cap holds for next year, but yes.. I certainly hope we load up on some young guys and get a nice look at them.

My thing is we had an opportunity to call up some good young talent and passed, instead opting to sign two throw-ins in a trade that we had just waived (something I don't recall seeing before). Now the roster stands at 15 again. I suppose we could turn around and waive these guys we just reacquired a 2nd time but you get the feeling we won't be doing that... Why the move to bring them back in the first place? And yeah, what the hell is a guy like Lou Amundson doing for us? What, he's gonna teach Quincy Acy how to hustle? Dude already knows how to hustle and he's got a better ceiling than Amundson...Now who's to say if we decide to go fishing for some young talent by the deadline, it'll still be there. If we wanted a guy like JaMychal Green, why weren't we proactive? Why haven't we gotten him in here already? Dude's a good player who's developed nicely in the DL and he definitely fits (our 4 spot will be wide open come next year). I don't buy that we may have made an offer and got rebuffed too btw as someone suggested the other day -- we would've heard something. Not how it works with these type of players anyway -- these DL guys that aren't tied to another team are all looking for work, desperate for a full-time NBA gig--I believe most of them are making $20-25k, that's it. There's no way any of them would turn down an NBA guaranteed deal. All due respect to BigCats but these couple of guys I've been talking about aren't band-aids. These are good young quality players that could help our future -- guys we could get at a rock bottom price, guys that we could pencil into a future rotation, guys we could revamp whole positions with at a time. Or at least audition to see if that's true. That would've been the right play for us right now. Instead we signed Lou Amundson. Yay!!

Quincy Miller I'm not too sure about -- I know many feel he's currently the top rated guy in the DL but I'm not sold. Seen him a few times now -- I know he's 6'10" and can shoot but he just looks a tad awkward out there. Robert Covington, last year's #1 rated DL prospect, is a similar tall/long SF who can shoot that just seems much more fluid and NBA ready to me by comparison. Philly got an absolute steal with that kid btw -- I think they gave him a 4-yr deal at a shade over $4mm total. Talk about money well spent. Look at the dividends he's paying now for them. Wow. Looks like he'll be a fixture there for years... I would love to iron out a similar deal with JaMychal Green -- let's go get that kid and lock him into a similar deal. Different positions (Covington's a SF, Green's a 4 man) but I see a player on a similar talent plane. No idea what we're doing. I wouldn't concern myself with cap holds on these young guys for next year. They're minimum level players. Covington gets paid a little over $1mm a year by Philly. I bet we could get several top DL players for less than that, although I like Philly's style -- why fool around with 10-day contracts? Up to me, I like several of these guys enough where I'd be comfortable signing them to multi-year guaranteed deals, similar to the one Covington signed with the Sixers.

We won't go get them but just for ****s & giggles, here are the players I'm most interested in for us (DL/playing abroad, etc.):

PF help
JaMychal Green - I think he could be a starting PF for nearly every NBA team.
Richard Howell - I'll continue to watch Acy closely but this is a similar 4 man I like a little more. I think he'd come cheaper than Acy's team option for next year too. Reminds me of DeJuan Blair.
Khem Birch - A dirty work, Keon Clark type that can rebound and has a big-time knack for blocking shots. Reminds me of Eric Moreland, the young big Sac. signed off his good SL showing.
Dwight Powell - I think this guy's a real jewel in the making. 6'10" athletic/skilled/NBA-ready PF. I think he'll be something better than Kris Humphries eventually. Nice job by Cuban getting him in the Rondo trade. If I'm Phil, I'd try to trade for this guy somehow.

PG help
Bryce Cotton - Love this little fella's game. He's quick, dynamic and he can really shoot. More complete game over Langston Galloway imo. Much quicker with better PG skills. Just as good a shooter...I'd grab this guy now and pencil him in as my backup PG for next year without hesitation (assuming we get a legit starting PG upgrade either in the draft or FA). 6' is adequate size -- smaller but not too small. Some websites list him at 6'1". Granted Cotton does look small but I'll take a 6' guy I know is more talented/more complete over a 6'2" guy that isn't any day.

Complete revamping of the 2G spot on the cheap
Kevin Murphy - Signed a deal to go play in China but he's obtainable. Nobody except Stephon Marbury decides to go play there forever. Murphy would be my starting 2G next year. 6'7", real potent scorer. Could be a tremendous 3rd/4th option in the offense for next year depending on how we retool.
Elliot Williams - Might turn out to be nothing more than a placeholder in Utah. He should spring loose. Talented, athletic SG.
Orlando Johnson - I like this guy -- I wanted him in the draft a couple of years ago. Young physical 6'5" 2G with a post up game and he can shoot/slash.

Admunson on a 10 day contract? Same for Lance?

Briggs, I'll take a stab.......

Just because you don't know why does not make for "incompetant!!!"
Maybe Curry has a hand shake deal like Galloway had with us that at some point he'll get a chance with his club. Sure we can take these guys but I do think there are some guys commited to some teams and some teams committed to some players. Curry might be destined for another team. Thats just my take.

I think Amare gets to pick and choose his path for the rest of the year. Limited minutes with team and be a mentor asset or get released and go to the team of your choice. Can a waived player return to that team next season?
Not sure.

He has to make his choice what he wants to do. He might want to be part of this team going foward as well.
Bargs, I'd venture to say he has to get healthier and if he has any trade value in the real world, not our "Bargs sucks" world. While I doubt he has much of a future here there could be a role for him at the right price.
I not saying he gets a 5 year commitment but:

1. We need position players
2 our roster is thin
3 Phil, Fish, and Bargs all might think this triangle thing could work for him and if given an opportunity to get healthy and rebuild the trajectory of his career can be "rebooted".

Im just trying to think out of the box and I generally think my Bargs scenario is a very low probable scenario but Phil will have to get creative and if not for him, maybe others as well.

Admunson I don't get. Lance Thomas I can understand.

Aside from all these other guys we don't know about, why are Lance THoams and Lou Amundson here over Thanassis? Thanassis is putting up nice numbers for the D-League team.

I get that there are diamonds in the rough out there who just need a chance. But i am always a bit puzzled when i see some of the posts that have lists and lists of d-league guys who are just poised to get called up the NBA to immediately rip it up and play amazing. Why is it that they've escaped the notice of all 30 pro teams? If all these guys were bonafide NBA contributers wouldnt multiple teams be calling their agents 24/7 to get them suited up? I just have to think they are in the d-league for reasons beyond NBA front office incompetance because if the knicks FO is incompetant not giving them a shot then so is every other FO around the league.

How many d-leaguers get called up midseason and then stick beyond 10 day contracts? Honest question. The numbers seems very low to me. How many become even second or third string contributers with solid NBA careers that last? Again, i dont hear about it often. I just fail to believe all these guys are diamonds who just need a shot.

Probably because we lose his rights once we send him back to the dleague. Maybe we bring him up when Melo has surgery

Crushalot knows the deal but I think but I think it has to do with the Knicks opting to maintain some flexibility for now. I'm not sure but if he's called up now, he may then be considered a 2nd year player as far as salary, cap hold for next year, that type of thing. I don't know the complete ins & outs here but I could see the flip side -- yeah, call him up and let's see what he's got. Plus you would think that we could establish him as a year 1 player now where next year will be year 2 and then we'll have early Bird rights that much sooner, no? Not sure... Crush?

Yeah, I think that's it, which kinda tells me they're on the fence with him -- they like him and wanna keep him around yet not on the actual NBA roster yet.

There's honest to goodness proof out there that importing DL-type talent can help. Teams have been successful tapping the DL for talent for years. Even recently -- Look at Hassan Whiteside -- DL guy/played in China etc., now he's a big-time contributor for one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference. Look at Robert Covington -- dude's looked great since joining the Sixers. There are guys down there that can help NBA clubs, esp. a lost team like ours. Who wants to watch Lou Amundson play in a lost season when we could watch several of these top DL prospects and evaluate whether they're potential keepers or not? Not me. Gimmie the latter all day...I don't wanna watch Lou Amundson. When you're a top team, you probably wouldn't concern yourself with adding DL talent but when you're a bottom feeder like us in a lost year with an uncertain future, it's a good way to potentially uncover a couple of good young pieces. We've got a lot of holes to fill next year. A TON. We basically need a whole new roster. The C spot's wide open for next year, the 4 spot, the PG spot, backup 3 (is Early really a player?)...I mean look at 2G -- it's wide open. THJ may not even be a keeper.. Speaking of SG -- I'm really surprised that we dealt away 2 rotation SGs in this trade and didn't bother to replace either one with another off-guard. Isn't that weird? Esp. with THJ stinking up the joint, even before the trade. I don't wanna hear Langston Galloway -- I gotta believe the idea is to see whether that kid can play the point. We know he can shoot and play off the ball but can he run the team for stretches at a time? Utah grabbed Elliot Williams but you mean to tell me we couldn't have made arrangements to bring in a Kevin Murphy before he went to China or an Orlando Johnson? Those guys are DL FAs and aren't linked to any NBA team right now. Two quality talents too I might add..

Id get that if we didn't have consistent playing time with him, but at his point he has 40 games left where can be playing 20-25 minutes per. We are way out of contention so now we can develop him on the pro level. I'd bring him up now, even if that is accelerating his contract status.

If you mean JaMychal Green, no team has his rights but he is playing for the Spurs d-league affiliate, has been in the Spurs training camp the past two years, and I saw a Spurs blog early in January speculating that the Spurs might bring him up. The Knicks need quality size. It seems like the opportunity to get a look at a first round level talent without using a draft pick or having the financial commitment of a first round pick. Someone will be bringing him up soon. Hopefully it is the Knicks.
I don't understand the Amundson signing either. The only thing I can come up with is that he is supposed to be a really good guy and maybe he was kept around as a positive locker room vet. On a 5 win team it seems you take a long look at Green.
