Who? How can a dude who never played the game teach professionals how to shoot? Price is a well known coach, why can't we give him a contract? Has anyone seen how poorly we are shooting the ball?
Man you have to relax with the critiquing of the Knicks coaching staff. I'm pretty damned sure that Phil knows a thing or 2 about putting together a staff and coaching in general. The guys who are allowing this season to cast doubt on Phil and his staff are going to basically throw out all the decades of knowledge and success over 40 games of a transitional season!!! STOP!!!Native of Portland, ME, was a four-year letterman at Bryant University, graduating in 2005 with a degree in marketing. While at Bryant, he was coached by Brian Keefe, whom he later joined on the staff of the Oklahoma City Thunder and is now also a member of the Knicks.Longstaff joined the Knicks after spending four seasons - 2010-11 through 2013-14 - with the Oklahoma City Thunder. He originally joined the Thunder as player personnel and video coordinator, then spent his final three seasons as video analyst and player development coach.
Prior to joining the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2010, the New England product spent five years as a high school coach; two seasons as the head coach at Gorham (ME) HS and three seasons as an assistant coach at Portland HS.
Nothing says this man is the greatest assistant ever but lets allow him the chance to do his job. If he doesn't get results i'm sure they'll let him go. This isn't really the best season to make that kind of judgement.
Phil himself said he made a lot of mistakes thus far. Meaning, he knows he is not perfect. Just like he is looking to make major changes to the roster, he should reevaluate The coaching staff as well. When your record is that bad, blames have to be assigned to many. It is not just the players who are bad, the coaching staff ain't good also.
This season with so many guys either injured, not buying in and just not talent enough, it's really hard to properly evaluate the staff. So much of what happens on the floor is really about the players themselves. I say lets start with a better mix of players and talent level and then we may be able to tell just what the staff is actually doing. I'd hate to base my job on how well JR absorbs coaching.
I actually think the younger guys have shown some good progress and have responded well to coaching. Outside of THJ, guys like Larkin, Aldrich, Wear and Acy have actually been getting better. Galloway seems to have responded well to the coaching in the D League. All of this is still in it's infancy. We have to actually allow some time for all of the D League Farm team stuff and the young coaches we have on this staff to also grow.
I think people totally have missed what Phil has tried to do. He hired a young coach and a couple of young assistants who are in development too. All will be brought up in this culture and system and should grow together. If he wanted immediate perfection he would've gone with an old head coach. Despite the attempt to try and make the playoffs, this was always partly a developmental group. It wasn't a total win now group or else why have all these kids around? Phil was always looking toward the future and now we REALLY are going more in that direction.
