Austin Spurs forward JaMychal Green was named NBA Development League Player of the Month for games in December.

The award is the first of Green’s two-year NBA D-League career.

Green (6-9, 220, Alabama) helped the Spurs to a 9-1 month in December, recording point-rebound double-doubles in seven of 10 games. For the month, Green averaged 24.5 points on 56 percent (90-of-160) shooting to go with 11.3 rebounds.

He recorded a season-high 32 points to go with 11 rebounds on Dec. 9, in a win over the Texas Legends and notched a 30-point outing on Dec. 14, when the Spurs defeated the Oklahoma City Blue.

For the season, Green is leading the Spurs with 22.5 ppg, good for sixth-best in the league. His 11.1 rpg this season is good for eighth overall.

Other players receiving consideration for the monthly award were Bakersfield’s Earl Barron, Fort Wayne’s Andre Emmett, Iowa’s Jarrid Famous, Maine’s Tim Frazier, Reno’s Quincy Miller, Santa Cruz’ Elliot Williams, Sioux Falls’ Khem Birch and Larry Drew II, and Texas’ Damion James

Cole has had his positive moments, but he is so inconsistent on the offensive end- frustrating.

Not starter material, but has some value, IMO, although his D, while not terrible, has not been as good as I expected it to be.

I also think that Jason Smith might fit well with a second unit of Larkin, Galloway, Early, and Wear. I think he does better in a unit that moves the ball around well in the half-court offense, although he hurts any kind of running game.

You can do a lot worse than Cole as far as third, even second, string big men go. Unfortunately, he's been forced to do things in the court he'd not suited for.
