So unexpectedly, we have waived Lance Thomson as well as the other two. A very odd move as we are short handed. I don't really see why we couldn't have just tried Kirk and Lance out for a little while- makes me wonder if we have another trade lined up that requires taking back some players.

I would like to see Calderon traded to New Orleans for Austin Rivers, Fredette and John Samons, all three are trash but all three are expirings. Clears Calderon from the books. Then see if we can trade for Reggie Jackson for a our trade exemption or Pablo- OKC are in the luxury tax for the first time, so they may be looking to drop some salary. I've gone off Reggie Jackson, but I wouldn't mind giving him a try out (plus we get his bird rights).

Other potential trade partners- the Clips. They are desperate to upgrade their bench but are hard capped. We could trade our trade exemptions to them for a second rounder or two in return for some of their expiring trash, which then free's them up to upgrade their bench.

Kirk I would've held onto for a little bit. 6'11" 250, hustles and he's got an offensive game. The little I saw, he kinda reminded me of Chris Kaman. Oh well..

Said it the other day -- if the plan is only to call up Langston Galloway and 2 stiffs from Westchester now, I'm gonna be really pissed. I'd like to see them shoot higher than that -- there are better players in the DL, maybe even playing in Europe, that we should sign ahead of those 3. Galloway OK I can see I guess---the rest of that Westchester roster is trash... If these better DL players choose other NBA teams, fine. NP. All I wanna see is that we tried to get the best...Take this audition process seriously.

I think they are waiting to see who gets waived by the 10th. They might have a chance at a good player from that pool. After that I hope they go to the d league. P&T Roundtable mentioned JaMychal Green and Seth Curry as suggestions. I don't think they bring up Thanasis unless that was promised when he signed in Westchester.

Ah, didn't realise about the 10th. Also I just read that it may be financially motivated- by waiving them we get even closer to falling below the tax threshold (we were at $5mil over if we had kept all three players).

Yep, keep Thannasis in DLeague, if we sign him this season, doesn't his salary double or something in the second year?

I am not sure but I know he becomes a cap hold. No reason to bring him up.

I have to wonder if we are going to be more active with those trade exemptions and want the roster slots. Those 3 slots give us solid flexibility--Im not wasting those on the players we traded for.

You're probably right. Only thing--I would hate to wait on whoever might or might not get waived and then lose out on the better DL players. If we like a guy like JaMychal Green for example, reach out to him RIGHT NOW!! You know SA likes him and will probably try to make room to call him up. We need to find a way to offer a better opportunity -- maybe forget a 10-day contract and go right to signing him for the rest of the year, maybe guarantee mins. and a starting spot for the rest of the year..That type of thing. Be aggressive and competitive. Best foot forward...Wanna see Phil be aggressive as possible here---you snooze, ya lose...Good call on Thanasis btw---you've been sayin' it -- we have options on him. We call him up now, we lose those options. Better to just let him keep marinating in the DL for the time being.

Personally, I'd cut Travis Wear for an even 4 open roster spots total. I'd then look to sign the following guys for the rest of the year:

Alex Kirk -- I'd keep him around. Could be something close to Chris Kaman here.

JaMychal Green

Elliot Williams -- the only 2G we have now is THJ. JR and Shump are history. We need to shore up that spot. Williams is the best, most talented 2G in the DL right now. He's better than Manny Harris, better than Kevin Murphy. Better player than THJ imho.

Bryce Cotton

Audition frontcourt and backcourt rotation possibilities for next year. That's the only thing we should be focused on right now, along with tanking, protecting Melo and scouting for the draft.

Just saw the Jazz plan to call up Elliot Williams...Arr! Would've been rocking the O&B if it were up to me..

Similar deal to Summer League ball I guess -- just because one team signs a guy, doesn't mean we still can't evaluate from afar and sign him for next year when the time comes. Would've preferred to have seen the Knicks pick him up though. This guy is a good player.

Crush, can I get a link to this when you get a chance? Can't seem to find it. Thanks.

they just sign galloway to a 10 dayer, and he's primarily a 2g/pg

Surprised they did not give Kirk a look.

Slow, but has a midrange J, a few post moves, and can block a shot or two.

To be honest, we don't really have a true center besides Cole at this point.

Don't know what the financial ramifications are if we kept him on the roster, but if he was healthy I would give him some time.

Leonard is not coming to NY. Butler is attainable

Thank God Fisher is no longer our coach, now let's get Calderon out of here:)

Well, two of the three are back on 10 day contracts (Almundson and Lance Thomson).

I wonder if we end up trading Prigs and that 2019 second rounder to OKC for Reggie Jackson. Gives them a savvy vet. Maybe help them get under the tax by trading a trade exemption for one of their expirings. Jackson is fretting about his upcoming free agency and as a result is becoming toxic to his team- chucking, sulking that he's not starting. Durant looked pissed off with him in last nights game, and he played under 20mins. The fact he wants to start limits his destinations, and likely they'll want to ship him east if they have a choice. Personally I'm not too keen on him and don't see how he fits what we're doing. However if Phil has decided to target him in the offseason, it makes sense to trade for him now as we'd get his bird rights and he'd only have a $5mil cap hold, so it gives us more money to spend on other free agents.

I agree- the more realistic options are:

PG: Dragic, Patrick Beverley, Reggie Jackson, Gary Neal
SG: Wes Mathews, Danny Green, Afflalo
SF: Tobias Harris
PF: Milsap, Monroe, Amir Johnson
C: Robin Lopez, Asik, Koufos

Add in whoever we draft. Obviously depending on we we draft, effects who we target (No point in getting a PF if we draft OK4). As you can see we can really upgrade our backcourt with a nice PG and SG combination, and get a serviceable C.

We are waiving all three players (including Lance Thomas)- whats next?
