word is that mcgrady wants the front office to trade the first pick for immediate veteran help.

so I offer the following to satisfy both front office and mc grady :

New York trades:
SF Tim Thomas
C Nazr Mohammed
C Dikembe Mutombo
PG Frank Williams

Orlanco trades:
SF Grant Hill
C Andrew DeClercq
PG Tyronn Lue
C Steven Hunter
2004 1st round pick (ask briggs to know what to do with it)

Orlando gets rid of bad contracts and gets help at three position (sf, pg and center)+ an expiring contract with mutumbo.

We get the 1st round pick, make I understand a big step back for next yr.
If grant hill can play, we have a good sf, if he can't, his salary is removed from the cap.

any thoughts ?

The problem is the draft this year could yeild a hit at #1 or #21. Why are we giving up so much to get the first pick ina draft with no sure thing?

Also, Grant Hill doesn't vanish off the cap immediately.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

I'd go with howard. Seems to have more upside than okafor.

i don't think it's worth all that to get the #1 pick...i would give up a longterm deal like Tim Thomas & another filler deal in exchange for Grant Hill's contract & the #1 pick, but not much more than that.

I would do this trade in a second if offered and draft okafor. Yes, there are concerns about his back but I think they've been overblown. Check him out first, but if he passes the physical I'd go for him. I think he's gonna be a big time player. Undersized for C, yes, but in the East not really. I mean he's the same size as Nazr and so much better offensivley and defensivley. I think he would come in and START next year and put up 16/10/2 for the knicks, with a ton of upside.

C Okafor/Baker
PF Thomas/Sweetney
SF Hill/Penny
SG Houston/Anderson
PG Marbury/Norris

Sign a SF/SG like Steve Jackson for the MLE as insurance for inevitable Houston/Hill Injury.

That said, I think Orlando can get more for the top pick than that. Probably won't happen.

you're taking on Grant Hill's contract & giving back a young talented player w/o health issues should be reason enough for them to part w/that pick imo...i wouldn't take on all that extra garbage of theirs to boot.

So to sumup, one of you think that we give too much and the other thikn the exact opposite. So are we somewhere in between ?

imo, a guy like howard or okafor is worth a lot. it may looks like a big step backward, but it could payback greatly in a few yrs.

TT & Nazr for Grant Hill & the #1 pick is the most i would give up...i certainly wouldn't give up Frank & replace him w/Tyronn Lue.

I agree with TMS on this one, we would be giving up way too much in that deal. Plus, as someone earlier mentioned you can get someone as good or better than the number one pick with a much lower pick. If Lebron or Yao Ming was in this year's draft then I would probably do that deal but this is one of those drafts where you are better off not having the number 1 pick because you can get someone better with a lower pick and end up paying him a lot less. TT, Nazr, and Frankie is just too much and it's not like your getting a good player in return you are basically just getting a draft pick and a bunch of bench warmers.

Imagine actually caring about someone else's grammar. I agree TMS... TT and Nazr is even a little tough for me but if we could turn that #1 into 2 #1's from Utah and get them to take say a Shandon off our hands I would do it. The point being is getting a #1 gives you a ton of flexibility.

I honestly think we operate from a position of strength. I think we can sign some frontcourt help like Dampier or Blount and be a very good team with what we currently have, and have some expiring deals to use come deadline time. I think our current team can be a good half court scoring team, a good defensive team and a good rebounding team. They just need time.
