I really hope we spend our money wisely and don't overpay for either of these guys.

They are too flawed.

Reggie can't shoot the 3 at all (tony douglass bad)

Monroe seems too underwhelming ... I actually think ROLO is worth more to a team and probably a lot cheaper.

I really hope we can get Mathews and I actually think that we have a shot.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

Dunno why people are so high on Jackson, yeah he can get to the rim but the so called pg in the triangle has to be able to shoot the 3 ball, he can't. Plus many teams are going to want him also off season.

Since we need talent and they have flaws, I would still be interested in acquiring them, if we can get them for a good price

It appears Reggie Jackson will be one of the weaker RFA PG's that could be available

Brandon Knight
Dragic

The above are surely better than Reggie
If we need to overpay to steal OKC, I would rather NOT do so

Reggie Jackson

He appears to be worth 6m or so at best to me, 3year 18m and 3rd year is a team option is the price I would test him, if OKC matches so be it

As for Greg Monroe, he has his flaws, but he is a UFA
Now if he is looking for anything close to MAX contract, just hang up

If he we can grab him at a good price, I would not mind, I would give Monroe a player option for 3rd year
3 year 20m

This way we would have room for error and even with their flaws we have the ability to still add use $$$ on other players to acquire talent

Our selling point should be,

1- We think you will be perfect in the Triangle, you offer the versatility and play a style that would fit greatly in the system, however, we still need to surround the team with more talent to execute the system, we see a great future starting here in NYK, we will be doing great things here in NYK and I hope that you would like to be a part of it,

A-for Monroe "we will be using you to initiate our OFFENSE, like we did with Gasol, and we think you have a great all round game and great versatility, however, there are parts of your game that still need some development"

B- For Reggie Jackson, say "we love your size and game, BIG GUARDS and see you as a big part of the system and your versatility to defend and play 2 positions would fit greatly, however, you still have to work on your defense and development"

1- you will be get plenty of minutes to prove your are worth and use Jeremy Lin as an example if they are able to win fans over here in NYK, as selling points for their next contract

2- It is up to them to decide to go to a better team instead where they will get less minutes but they are both relatively young and will get the opportunity to get another 2 good contracts where you will have the minutes here to showcase your talents here in NYK where the media is always focused on

3- 3 year deals, it would end AFTER the next lock out where the CBA's salary cap will likely rise signifigantly, and we would have their FULL BIRD rights if they take the 3 year deal
It is your job to lose, as you will be given the starting job, as we will continue to challenge and further develop your abilities as we see in you

For us, it is an easy decision as we find value players that could possibly become trade bait for us too
2- 3 year deals, will not hurt us too bad especially at that price

They could be quality players with the right talent/system around them
Maybe something just to buy us time till 2017 where there will be many FA's, Noah, Durant, Lebron, could all be potential UFA's

Reggie Jackson, 3years 18m with team option for 3rd year
Monroe, 3 year 20m, with team option for 3rd, or 2year 15m (I want them to take the 2nd year deal)

I would make both those deals but I don't think it will happen especially monroe who I am sure will overvalue himself and have some dumb team that does the same

Those aren't realistic deals from RonRon

Will we have to bump threads like these in the future in July?

Agreed. Monroe's going to get better offers than $6.5M/year and OKC would definitely match the Reggie Jackson contract. Hell, I doubt Reggie Jackson would even sign a contract that low.

Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

You are right, we will not get them at those prices
However, we are quite limited on what we could actually spend too

If we are going to keep CA on this team and win a TOP 3 pick this summer
We are probably best to offer one contract above 10m

Then look for value players in the range of 2-5m of starting salaries
We are missing way too much talent and the difference between a vet min contract and a contract that is from 2-3.5m a big difference

I have no problem with you wanting them at those prices

It's not realistic to paint those figures and then build premises around them

I'd rather give Beverley a little more money between 6-7m Than offer Monroe or Jackson over 10m. Also if the Knicks draft a big not named Stein there is no reason to spend money on another PF that doesn't play defense. It would be a better option to get in the Ed Davis sweepstakes

Agreed I want no part of either of these guys at the paygrade either is going to command. Jackson is a good sub but as you said too flawed to be a 1/2/3rd option night in night out.

I've said this about Monroe ad nauseum I feel like but I could care less about his post moves and offense the guy is atrocious on D and I am so so tired of the knicks putting out extreme 1 way players. Let's get some rugged fuhucking PF's up in the Garden. For fuhucks sake let's see if Oak will suit up. At this point I'm just weary of Bargs-type charmin power forwards. Enough already.
