On Tuesday, the Westchester Knicks made a couple of necessary spots by waiving Jordan Vandenberg and Kris Clark.After being acquired as an affiliate player once the NBA Knicks signed him to a training camp contract with just days to go in preseason play, Vandenberg had struggled to find a rhythm in limited playing time on the court. The 7'1" big man out of North Carolina averaged less than a point per game, shooting just 33% through nine appearances. It's safe to say he never truly lived up to full potential, unable to assert himself on either end of the floor early on.
A source tells RidiculousUpside.com that Vandenberg was asked to be let go out of his contract, and the team obliged.
At 6'2" and 180 pounds, the 29 year old Clark is seemingly an undersized two-guard trapped in a floor general's body. Despite showing some promise with some prowess from beyond the arc early on, Clark struggled to embrace the team's third-string point guard position, averaging just 2.2 points (on 25% from the field) through thirteen appearances.
But where one door closes, another one opens. Taking advantage of one of the two recently vacated spots, Westchester subsequently signed long time D-League vet and NBA alum Walker Russell Jr. The son of New York Knicks' scout Walker Russell has averaged 14.7 points, 8 assists, and 1.6 steals through 162 minor league contests. He'll undoubtedly complete a strong one-two punch of veteran point guard play leading the way for Westchester, along with Andre Barrett.
With just one free spot remaining following Russell Jr.'s acquisition, a source tells RidiculousUpside.com that the Westchester Knicks have acquired Ron Anderson from the Oklahoma City Blue. A third-year minor league forward, the 25 year old has seen his minutes decrease this season, despite rising numbers. In just 13.8 minutes through nine appearances, Anderson has averaged a D-League career high of 7.3 points on an even more impressive 57% from the field.
Such success, despite decreasing playing time, has come after Anderson averaged more than twenty minutes per game in each of the last two seasons.
The source tells RU that the Knicks will send a future draft selection OKC's way in exchange for the 6'8" 260 pounder.
Needless to say, Russell Jr. and now, Anderson, will both go on to provide steady veteran presences on an otherwise younger Westchester squad to balance things out.
