I like how phil has opened up the org- remember the dark days of secrecy?

It's odd that he talks about judging the trade in 5 years, but only mentions Jose (will be retired), Dalambert (is already trash) and Larkin (didn't pick up his option). If he'd mentioned Early and the Greek kid and we'd picked up Larkin's option I'd understand.

These tweets are proof he's embraced the tank now though- like he says, everyone just sit back and relax!

I know as a Knick fan--patience is our best friend. I'll tell you what--you guys pick out a game later in the season as LONG as the tank continues--and tickets to a game are on me. Ill support the team if they make smart longer term movbes.

yup it's comforting. I don't see Phil making any rash decisions by mortgaging the future for a quick fix now that Dolan is out of the picture.

Still a little alarmed by the parameters of the Melo signing and Tyson trade but as long as Phil sticks to a plan to build a consistent winner I will be happy.

I thought Chandler was worth a future 1st and they should have ask for Wright.

That would have actually been a reasonable trade.
Phil's spin is unimpressive here.

a bit confused. what is there to judge on the trade 4 or 5 years down the road? tyson's presence in ny would be holding back which player's development? jose's presence is helping which player's development? shane's option was not picked up so in 4-5 years, he may be in europe.

If tyson played last year like he is playing this year we would have gotten back better value. However im not upset at the trade since tyson only had 1 year left and we got back some young assets. Not crazy about calderon though

We ended up with Larkin (picked in the middle of the first round the year before) and two second rounders and got rid of Felton. Why are people acting like a late first rounder is one million times better? Do they think we would have drafted MJ the second?

Just cuz Phil didn't specifically mention Early or Thanasis doesn't mean he wasn't talking about them since he did reference the entire DEAL which did in fact include those 2. Plus Larkin isn't guaranteed not to return just cuz they didn't pick up his option. In Phil's mind he may think there's still a chance Larkin could be brought back. It's easy to sit back and assume we could've gotten more for Tyson, but we really can NEVER know that for sure.

I think also that just cuz Phil mentioned 4-5 years doesn't mean that he means nothing will happen until 4 years from now. It just means that over the course of time you can see what those players do or turn into. Phil is taking the long view. Usually things have a natural progression when it comes to young players. People take these things too literally and don't read into the points made. He can still have a vision of having Jose as a backup PG going forward so why is it not valid to talk of him since he is in fact under contract. Phil will be making major changes to this roster in all likelyhood since we have such a number of ending contracts coming this summer.

Despite the results so far this year, Phil is probably looking to continue to develop some of the young players he's collected in D League and guys like Acy and Wear. Every team needs to develop cheap role players who can grow up in the system. San Antonio has done this and some of those players looked useless early on but now have been developed and they contribute as role players for them.

The media has had a field day with the teams struggles and not even a year into Phil's tenure and they're slamming his moves already. None of these guys has a clue what Phil has in mind for the roster going forward but it's easy to take pot shots when you have a poor season like this.

Always makes one regret the past

Phil sounds hella saltines

Like how Phil essentially surrenders the remaining 55gms to the next 4yrs

To the extent his trade will not turn a 37win team into a 50win team this season

Agree. Also, that last tweet about security was just getting in the last word on Sheridan's part. Not necessary and makes him look a little smaller.

There was no penalty for being Optimistic this year. In the end nothing really changed except the draft position. The cap was still going to open up and Phil still would have to do his best Vulcan Mind Meld to convince FA's to sign. We'll have money which is always good, but maybe the draft will prove to be a positive if we have a high pick. We'll basically be competing with these teams for FA's.

Rank Team Est. Total Cap
w/ Holds
21 Los Angeles Lakers 47,002,668
22 Boston Celtics 53,886,312
23 Dallas Mavericks 46,268,687
24 Detroit Pistons 46,197,792
25 Memphis Grizzlies 43,396,062
26 New York Knicks 42,237,033
27 Atlanta Hawks 42,162,661
28 San Antonio Spurs 34,159,327
29 Portland Trail Blazers 30,206,816
30 Philadelphia 76ers 15,300,548

I think the Knicks will have a good shot competing with some of these teams. Some will be playing defense to try and retain their own top guys.

Larkin was a first rounder in a bad draft year but a true 1st rd pick is more valuable than a former pick unless that player is already showed promise. If getting rid of Felton was the reason they did not get a 1st rounder then they should have taken him out of the equation. Dallas wanted Tyson badly and all the knicks had to do was leak a possible other deal in the works and play the two parties against each other.

It is what it is but not getting a young big back for Tyson was a mistake even if you thought Dalembert could duplicate his career production. Wright has pretty good numbers as shooter. He was an expiring to so they would have had a choice to use his bird rights or cut/trade him if it didn't work out.

You win some and you lose some. Hopefully Phil learns and gets better. He is right though if some how Cleanthony and/or Thannasis become solid players then the trade will look better.

If Phil is going to play the tweeting game then maybe he should have something to say. This was a fail.
