Smart move by Melo! He signs the big contract with the only team that could give it, the Knicks. Now he could go to Chicago or wherever he wants and he gets a 17% kicker to his contract on top of what he already signed for. I'm starting to dislike this clown!

Fisher: My ma urged me to get out of this game. When I was a kid, she pleaded with me. And I meant to, you know what I mean? But she died.
Jackson: Tough
Fisher: Now look at me. I'm wet nurse to a last-place, dead-to-the-neck-up ball club, and I'm choking to death!

Like I posted on the other thread:

I knew the whole no-trade clause thing would be a non-issue, because at the end of the day if we sucked enough, Melo would demand a trade. In fact, didn't 'a source' say at the time, part of his reasoning in signing with the knicks was guarantee the money first, and then he could always ask to be moved later (and I know people will blast him for that, but it's what most reasonable people would do in that situation).

I think we need to move Melo. It was a good enough idea attempting to rebuild around him, but I think this season combined with the realisation that there are no magic bullets in free agency (most of the top FA's are staying put), indicates it's going to take a lot longer to fix this mess. A top pick would be a great start, but I don't think Melo will have the patience or health for the three or so years it might take to start contending. If we keep him, likely we just miss the playoffs next year (or maybe scrape in). There's a lot more pressure if we keep him to blow our load this offseason, when the crop of agents available isn't worth it.

The problem is, I don't see how a deal with the Bulls is possible, even with a third team- we just can't match the salaries. I don't really see any other contender that he would fit with.

He is all about the money. Getting this cancer off this team will be the best move possible now.

Ha ha, Melo is such a puzzie.

“He thought things would be better than this, but he still wants to stick it out for now, ’’ a source said. “He trusts Phil, but I think he’s afraid of Phil.’’

Rose $18.8m
Noah $12.7m
Taj Gibson $8mil
Gasol $7.1mil
Mirotic $5.3m
Dunleavy $3m
Hinrich $2.7m
Doug McDermott $2.2mil
Jimmy Butler $2mil
Nazr Mohammed $1.4mil
Moore $0.9m
Brooks $0.9m

Plus they have a $2mil trade exemption and a $1mil trade exemption

Melo: $22.5mil

I just don't see it. They'd have to give up too much. I'd like Mitotic or McDermott, Butler and either Taj, Noah/Gasol But see by this point if feels like you're taking the p***, but they'd have to do that for salary reasons- even then they need to give up more.

News flash: most nba players are, most people are in their job. If I'm helping to generate x amount of money, I would like as much of the money I helped make, back- that doesn't make people evil. I usually look at working environment etc, but sometimes I do compromise because there's also something about fairness and not being exploited (and yes that applies even when we're talking millions of dollars). You'll find that out when the time comes for you to get a job

Except the ones who aren't. Framing any argument about talent around the mentality of the majority as if that justifies anything is how masters of propaganda form mobs and get popular support for agendas that are antithetical to the best interests of the citizens.

Now if you're saying you'd take a job that pays 25% even if you'd be happy in the lesser paying one and miserable in the higher paying one, then you may be out in sync with a portion of the American population. An increasing trend is people are making quality of life decisions and the fattest check is often not the determining factor. And many of those people would not make their choice based on differentials of millions since they'd already be satisfied with being wealthy and would look for other qualifying factors to drive their choices.

Now if most of the NBA players are money driven first and foremost, that just makes it easier to figure out who is not. It is up to a GM to assemble a team of people who want to win, not for us fans to justify greed as reasonable cause for signing pea brains. The pea brain is a pea brain. It is the GM who needs to know better.

I don't expect a pea brain to be anything other than they are. And that is not the point. The point is will we have management with greater discretionary insight who hire winners, not bid against ourselves for pea brained losers.

It's not a non-issue. He has to approve the team we trade him to, which probably limits us to about 3 or 4 possible trade partners rather than the whole league.

All in all, this is good news for the Knicks! We are starting to see the bond between Dolan and Melo starting to stretch!

What is your point? You think this is not going on now? You'd have to be a sucker not to realize a guy like Melo can't handle this and he'll look for an out. That plus Phil using the media to turn up the heat and Melo already on vacation and you think fans are suckers for believing Melo would waive his no-trade clause? The overriding point here is he got the money from us, now he can go somewhere else, something he could not achieve without signing here first. Plus, he gets a $17.5M bonus for being traded, something a greed head like Melo may like very much.

Wow, you seem very emotional right now. It is okay. Just breath. Of course Melo would waive his no-trade clause. The clause is not there for a player not to be traded the clause is there to not be traded to just anyone. The real suckers are people who fall for this stuff and it looks like you have. It happens.

Run me down a list of teams that have salary to match what Carmelo is making without gutting that team? If the heat is on him like you say then surely he would not want to bring that heat with him to his new team. so he would try to go without hurting the new team's nucleus.

Agree. Also the second or third paragraph says Anthony has no desire to be traded right now. The media is definitely turning up the heat though.

If he does waive his no trade this season then **** him
