We need to consolidate our roster and acquire a big that can actually play defense that's actually got some offensive game. Kostas accomplishes all of that and is actually a guy that can be a longer-term cog for us. With the Grizzlies knowing that they won't be able to keep him due to financial constraints, could we get him in a deal for Aldrich, Jason Smith and cash? Aldrich replaces the defense and rebounding at the 5 spot that Kostas provided, while Jason offers a legitimate backup behind Zach Randolph. Thoughts?

You got me there. Maybe if they falter around the deadline, they consider shaking things up a tad.

I rather trade them Melo for Mozgov, Wilson, Gallo & picks. Then trade Gallo

Is he available? I know Cleveland reportedly was trying to get Kostas. He is still really young, 25? I think if the Knicks could get him it would be a good move.

They are good. You'd be talking injury type decline.

Time will tell. All good teams have rough patches and injuries.

I'm not sure if he's available necessarily but if a trade came along that bowled the Grizzlies over, I suspect that they'd take it. Jason Smith sucks for us but on a team with an established culture, he'd be a very valuable player. His ability to space the floor at his size is a rare quality, so I could see a contender being interested in him. All the Grizzlies would need is 15mpg-20mpg from him to rest Randolph. Meanwhile, Cole is a good bit-player that would excel (by his standards) in a system that emphasizes post players.

I don't know if he's necessarily a system player but he seems to have good court awareness and can help promote good ball movement. From a physical standpoint, he reminds me of a less athletic version of Timofey Mozgov and does many of the same things on the court (e.g. good help defender, good rebounder, decent touch around the rim). He's not going to set the league on fire but he's a far more complete player than what we've got at the 5.

Jason Smith + Cole Aldrich + cash = Kostas Kufos?
