Quotables I take from today's discussion

Ian Begley @IanBegley about 12 minutes ago

Asked #Knicks' Phil Jackson about the potential benefit of losing & getting a high draft pick. "We're not thinking in those terms," he said.

Marc Berman @NYPost_Berman about 50 minutes ago

Phil on trades while protecting cap: "What we have to do is protect our future.'' Jackson said opportunities aren't "jumping out at us.''

Frank Isola @FisolaNYDN 58 minutes ago

Phil: "We're so disappointed with Andrea's condition.'' Adds that Andrea is also disappointed. Hints that players are frustrated with him

.

Scott Cacciola @ScottCacciola about 1 hour ago

Phil says Carmelo is making the right kind of plays. "What I'd like to see him do is flesh out the rest of his game." Assists, rebounds.

Ian Begley @IanBegley about 1 hour ago

Phil Jackson on #Knicks' struggles: "We have a loser's mentality."

Ian Begley @IanBegley about 1 hour ago

Phil says he "has a pretty good idea" of who's learning triangle. Of trades, he adds "Im not going to make movement for movement's sake."

Ian Begley @IanBegley about 1 hour ago

Phil Jackson says of #Knicks (4-18) "obviously we're dissapointed. Says "there's some resistance to discipline, order and culture change."

So in review Phil's saying

- We're not Tanking nor Submarining by design

- Melo needs to expand his game

- Hates Andrea Bargnani with a passion

- Teams don't like anything on our roster

- We're Mentally Defeated

- Won't make moves just because will protect future flexibility unless the move is part of the future

- Some guys are triangle stupid and can't be fixed some aren't and will need more time in the system

- Some guys refuse to accept the culture change

Aiyyy Yaayyyiiiiyyy!!!!!!!

I appreciate his candor and availability-accessibility

Not all what comes out is straight shooter but a good chunk of it is

What I haven't been drawn to is the results from some of his execution

I think he will do what he can, unfortunately though we need him to be a miracle worker

He has that rare ability to make you feel better after listening to him, no matter what the message is.

NY Daily News can suck it- they have been relentlessly gunning for him from day one, running negative article after negative article, and every time he exposes them as liars- most recently they ran a story today blasting him for being silent, then he turns round and does this interview.

To narrow down our search for the players not excepting change..it has to be from the left over players from last season, so who do you think it is ?

Nalod been trying to tell you its all good. Not saying "told you", but remember this dude decision making and thought process far more chill than most.

All I have been saying is to fans trying to come up with ideas that this dude is thinking longer term and not overly concerned with the present state. ANd neither should some of you!
The process is to get the system in place and organically if it don't work then you let the draft pick happen. Thats why I don't prescrive that we tanking on purpose, but if its a by product of what is NOT HAPPENING then let it go.

On paper this team is pretty good if all healthy. so if it happens, it happens.

"addition by subraction".....I wonder what that meant???

Trying to determine what Phil is really thinking based on what he publicly states is hilarious. The guy is plenty smart in the game of perception. I see tons of affirmations in response to his comments as if one can take anything he says literally on face value. He has plenty of P.T. Barnum in him and many of you fall for his rap every time.

For instance, whether he wanted to tank or not may not matter. He may embrace the tank now and you can be sure he will say the opposite.

Preserving our future is meaningless GM talk. He'd almost surely trade just about anyone on this roster if the right deal came up.

In F5's quotes above, Phil said nothing that is out of the ordinary. The only thing I think you can derive from it is he has used the public platform to send a message to the players more than once, i.e. get on board or get lost. But he will not call out names and devalue assets just yet.

The only thing Phil can be judged on is what team he assembles. His words are pretty much meaningless at this point.

I've got a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell!

There is a plan in place. Phil won't say it because it's not right to but we must keep losing to get better. With losses comes higher first and second round pick. With that comes infusion of talent. This team needs serious talent up grade.

I think one thing that tends to get lost in the shuffle is typically you fit the offense around the personnel, at least in the short term. We are taking a team without triangle parts and implimenting the triangle regardless. Most around the league would say the triangle isn't a good fit for this particular group of players, but that doesn't matter because long-term that is going to be how this team is built. So really this offense is designed for 2 or 3 long-term players and that's it, whereas the rest of the group is misfit and the overall performance will suffer because of that.

Phil didnt say anything that a normal fan wouldnt already know. The team is resisting, they do have a losers mentality, Barganai is garbage/dont care, and he knows the talent gap is huge.

Why folks tried to believe otherwise is mindboggling.

Yea our record is irrelevant to Phil. The players are being judged on their ability and acceptability of playing within a team concept. They are using practice and games to evaluate this. Record doesn't matter.

of course fans and media are panicking. Calling for Fish & Phil's heads. Calling for the Knicketypical band-aid trade. Fans are not capable of thinking outside the box. Media feeds off drama. Phil gets it. He won't abort the plan

Yeah, the last thing Phil is going to do now is get ruffled by this crap. He knew we were inadequate. I 'm sure he doesn't enjoy being affiliated with this garbage, but he'd be absolutely the wrong guy for the job if he was deterred by the losing. It is merely an incremental adjustment between being very mediocre and sucking big time.

There are advantages to sucking now as it actually will take some attention off what we should be doing this year (as in fighting for a playoff berth) and it pretty much buys him a window where nobody really gives a crap about the team for the rest of the year. He's smart in the way that can handle this emotionally, so I doubt the losing is affecting him personally. So I don't expect any easy tells to slip out into his speeches.

And Fisher is just going to bite down hard on his lower lip and survive this with Phil handling the flack. And there is no way Phil didn't prepare Dolan for this.

The only question then is will Dolan stay out of it or will 4-18 start to freak him out. If Dolan meddles now, I'm sure many of us will walk away from this club until a new ownership takes over. Whatever any of us think about Phil or the plan, we have no choice but to hope Phil does good things and Dolan stays out of it. The blowback on meddling now would be fierce. Dolan would be scarred for life by the reaction.

Other then the TRIANGLE, Fisher can't coach anything else.

Thank God Fisher is no longer our coach, now let's get Calderon out of here:)

This starphuck is not for the instant gradification crowd. Gonna take time.

And why would he try to? He was hired to run the system his boss tells him to.
