We should trade for Monroe right now, draft another big and a couple of shooters, and attract some cheaper FAs to fill the bench. I still think it would be wise to pursue a trade for Stephenson, because this dude could potentially help put us over the top in the right environment.

Trade Amare or Bargnani's expiring contract to Detroit for Monroe. Because they have a couple of albatross contracts and they may be looking to save money.

Find a way to offer Jordan a desirable player for STEPHENSON.

With the attention that has to be given to Carmelo, we need a slasher like Stephenson to attack the basket. He and Monroe are excellent rebounders at their position; they would drastically improve this team at all position.

At 4-16 I think the playoffs are out of reach even if you make that deal. Then you devalue our pick which means we really don't draft a stud.

No he doesn't block shots (he's never averaged more than .7 blocks a game in his career--this season? .2 blocks a game). He is a minus defender and does not protect the rim at all which is pretty important quality for a PF.

Can the Knicks, FOR FREAKING ONCE, get a rugged PF and/or C who plays frikking DEFENSE and swats shots!!? I'm so tired of the Bargs and Amares and these finesse forwards and centers who don't play D. Enough!

Monroe is a decent player. As you said good scorer and rebounder and can pass. But he wants the max and he is _not_ worth that IMO. And he can reject any trade since he's on a one year qualifying offer from Detroit, too. Plus, the thought of taking back Detroits garbage makes by butthole pucker. Josh Smith, Jennings, etc. Those are guys who are pure losers who will come to NY and play like complete aholes ala JR. NO THANKS! Josh Smith heaving midrange shots is the stuff

Another neglected piece of this conversation when talking salaries is that after 2016 the cap should go WAY up! So what the Knicks pay a player will be far less relevant. In addition, I do think they will push for some sort of tax adjust cap system it is kind of a joke that the big market teams aren't really relevant under the current model in FA. Financially it doesn't make sense for the players unless they are resigning.

The best we can hope for is maybe a 2nd round draft position. Even that would be fortunate. We'd probably have to buy one of those on the open market for $2M like we have done before.

But we are not getting a star or a high quality starter in a trade this season. Will not happen.

Agreed. I don't think anyone is off limits incuding Melo if a bona fide deal came along. Tank, get the best player in the draft and rebuild. Not that I think a Melo deal is at all likely, but I don't think this roster is untouchable, even him. Not that management sees it that way, but outside of Melo I'd imagine they'd entertain any offer that nets them something that assists in rebuilding. This looks like a total gut job at this point.

Instead of trading for Monroe, I'd be much more interested in seeing what it would take for us to get their pick for this year.
