there have been some duzzies but I think #1 has to be not getting Lowry for the price of a restricted pick--heck we have given away first round picks just to take salary. Lowry Tyson and melo wouldve been pretty tough to beat in the east.

Our owner truly is the dumbest tool in the shed when it comes to the NBA

Actually reports suggest Phil was in advisory mode

On the trade, keep in mind Mills already had agreed to

A structure of the trade, Dolan was flopping like a fish

In the background and who do you think he was consulting with

Thus came a veto of an agreed upon deal

Lowry is leading the MVP candidacy this season and has for a few weeks now

It was the Bargs trade that did us in. Without the Bargs trade we definitely do the Lowry trade.

I think it would've taken a lot more to get Lowry than what was rumored and yea the Bargnani trade was a real doozy

yea he was already playing like an allstar. The only question was it sustainable but why would Toronto do the deal for what was rumored

The 2018 pick had no impact if our plans

Go as expected to be in contention by then

And while I get what you're saying the residual affect

From the Bargs trade put us in intensive care mode

You can't run your franchise that way

Once again the trade was already agreed to

The price went up only after we backed out

And he began to play as you stated

It's hard for me to imagine a worse GM performance so far actually. He made Melo the highest paid player on the planet and threw in a no trade clause. And he transformed a .450 team into a .250 team.

a bit too early to judge. lets see where they are at this time next season. .250 team is not a bad thing.

You could have a well-planned out tank to get a high pick like the Spurs did to get Duncan. However, it's a BAD sign if you're at .250 by accident. The problem is the same people who made the wrong decisions that led to .250 are making future decisions too. There have been plenty of instances where teams got top 5 picks, made bad choices, and got players who were awful. I'm not saying fire Phil right now. I don't think it's reasonable to put a positive spin on bad decisions and bad results though.

You're right that it's early. I meant simply that it's hard for me to imagine the start to a GM's performance being any worse.

Keeping Melo was no doubt the centerpiece of Dolan-Phil deal.
Zen decided that this problem will resolve itself this way or another. And it will.
Dolan will get the money from Melomans and zen will get the top pick to work on rebuild and green light to trade everybody else as they suck around Melo.

People forget that Lowry was a FREE AGENT. We could have traded a #1 pick for him , he could have signed somewhere else and we could have gotten no compensation. Or because he was now in "NY" he would have demanded and we would have paid a ridiculous contract to keep him. If we could have agreed to a contract extension then sure it was a no brainer but in basketball it doesnt work that way usually.
fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

Yeah you might be right. The only explanation I can come up with for Mills not making any moves last year was that Phil was on deck and wanted to be the orchestrator. Just speculation but adding Lowry would have fixed a lot last year.

SA tanked and got crazy lucky. Boston got screwed out of Duncan.

Def not a good start though ...

Lowry -> Chandler (mainly not unloading him last season) -> not trading shump -> Kerr -> Melo Contract -> ugly triangle

so here is what phil is thinking ....

Give me a damn break

1)Absolutely 90% of the posters on this board did not approve of the trade because it required a 1st rnd pick, which none of you were willing to give toronto AGAIN..neither was dolan.

2)lowry wasn't playing anywhere close to 1st round pick material, and to give up shump, THJ and a 1st rounder seemed like highway robbery AGAIN..favoring Toronto.

3)It's not the player it's the coach, go look at everyones numbers prior to Casey taking over as head coach, and they almost sky rocketed right after he took over (atleast derozen), which is why he wanted Bargi and calderone the fck out, they can't defend.
