We can say triangle till blue in the face. Amare at 20mm is to much Amare at 3mm for his 12 points and 6 rebounds 55% in 20 minutes is a bargain. Plus hes tough and has a good attitude.

Its important to keep as many "productive" players as we can during the purge. Anyone can break his cahones--hes solid every game. Hes not a C and gets graded by D as one. But he is a tough solid post player who scores and rebounds plays very very hard. Id like to keep him--I really do not think he is a down piece hes just paid way too much for 20 minutes.

If he holds up and continues to play like he has, you will not get him for that cheap

Amare has proclaimed he is "BACK!!!"

Funny how that happens in a contract year.

if he wants to be part of a team, loves NYC, and ego checked to play for the love instead of money then I'd love for him to return.
I'd say the same for Bargnani! Role player with enough money and little ego to play for a winner in a great city?

We can keep these guys AFTER we spend our cap.

If not, we'll get youthier healthier guys on the team either way.

Yea we don't want to regret losing Amare and all the good things he brings on the defensive end of the floor. We would probably be 2-12 without him. Thankfully he is here and we are 4-10

Its the bigger picture. What would he look like next to Marc Gasol? Stud draft pick? Better parimeter shooting?

This team has a plan. If he wants money, he can look elsewhere. I would be nice for him to think he was over paid and wants to finish what he started but its a business and won't fault him if he leaves.

For all we know, he might ever be in our plans under any circumstances.

well we can easily have a stiff like tyson who makes 16 mill and all he can do is dunk, and play avg defense

If we will be able to include him in trade and get back some young promise or picks (unlikely), or 2-way system players he will be traded. If he will expire he goes on the market and we will be in the same boat as other clubs.
His market value will dictate if we are betting or not.
Simple like that.

Amar'e needs to go. Maybe he can sign in cali, either Sacramento & Golden State, whichever is closest to Napa Valley.

New blood all around.

I have no problem keeping STAT on a low end, short term deal. But let's wait and see what happens first before we start talking new deal. I'd rather have a big guy with half a clue on D than 12 points and 5 rebounds a game.

I pretty much knew this would be a negative response. To me keeping high productivity at cost effective price's for our bench is good business. Amare is an 18-21 minute player. But tell me how many guys give 12-6 55% in that time for what a 3mm$ salary? For 2-3mm you get fair basketball players. I'm not viewing Amare as a 22mm$ 18 minutes player. Im viewing him as a productive 18-20 minute player off the bench. And if you equate production/cost weigh in that he's been here and on surface has been a solid teammate hard worker. 3.3mm bought us Jason Smith this year and he's been no where near what Amare has been for the club. I dont see another team committing more than 2 years 6mm for Amare.

Vince Carter keeps getting his 3mm per year for his bench role's and every team he goes to wins. It seems like the solid clubs get the Vince Carters etc... AFTER their big contract are done and that many NY fans view Amare as a fail--and for his contract--he was. But at 3mm different story.

We need to keep Amar'e so he can teach the triangle and defensive strategy to our new players and rookies next season.

I think that would be a reasonable price.

The only question is his negative impact and that we need complete climate change.

RPM stats (Real Plus Minus) had Amare ranked #425 out of 433 players last year while putting up good numbers.

Now I don't know how much stock to put into that but that it quite alarming.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

Vince Carter doesn't have the injury history that Amare does. Even a $3 million salary is an albatross if the guy goes down for the season or for the majority of it. Yes, he can be productive at that price but the risk you lose him for huge chunks of time PLUS his atrocious defense means I'd rather he walk into the sunset. Surely for 3 million we can get a lower tier vet PF who is a bit more rugged and who can protect the rim at the very least?

The bottom line for me is Amare's injury history makes resigning him a non starter. He ain't getting any younger.

Even if he is not on the roster, Amar'e should be kept in the organization as a Fire Safety instructor.
