Philadelphia's Glenn Robinson, who had the second-best midrange mark at 45.1 percent, knows why the mid-range game is becoming a lost art. "To young kids, running the floor and playing above the rim is more exciting," he said. "Jump shots are dull. But when those guys get older and aren't able to play that way anymore, that's when they'll realize how important it is to have a mid-range jumper in your arsenal."

Which is EXACTLY why guys like him (Not too much though) and Sam Cassell and Allan Houston and Latrell are so successful. They use all the space they have, below the 3 point line like Wizards.

the best mid range shooter of all time is none other than Jordan. Everyone remember's Mike's insane attack the basket style but so much of that was because you had to guard him so closely as his 12-18 foot jumper was just money.

Bernard King had some very good midrange game as well.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

i teach my son mid range stuff now....all the kids are only into dribbling and shooting threes.

I was playing the other day in a 4 on 4 full court with some kids like high school age. This one kid must have taken a three pointer every time down the court I was pissed so I was just standing around not even into the game. You couldn't tell the kid he wasn't nice. He was like get the rebound and play defense like he was Iverson or something. I dropped out the game and left the park.

Big Dog is right about getting older and having a mid-range game. I'm becoming an Allan Houston myself. It erks me that I can't explode to the rim like i used to. Oh well no one plays defense on a shooter anymore so I'm good to go.

Yesss! to Bernard as top mid-range shooter of all time. Loved the way he made the net dance.

Bob McAdoo is another candidate, though he was more catch and shoot, and this article seems more geared toward one dribble and shoot. Still, he could fill it up.

Jordan didn't shoot for a high enough % to earn top honors, IMO. He went through spurts where he was unstoppable ... mostly from mid-range, it's true ... but he had too many 4 for 19 type games.

I totally agree about Bernard and Michael. The second time around, all Michael did was imitate the way Bernard used to play in the half court.

But that stat may bode well for Tim Thomas. I liked the way he played as a Knick. And if you look at the games he played more than 12 minutes in with the Knicks this season, he was averaging about 19 ppg. He can develop. He needs to focus and forget about the Kenyon stuff - which I think was really more of a problem with the media than anything else.

That's exactly what made MJ so successful, to merge his game into a midrange game, while he still had legs. It's so hard to stop someone to attack the basket when he can light you up from 15ft.

When he came back the first time, most of his points were made on mid range jumpers and fade aways, which are kind the same.

Oscar Robertson was a very good mid-range jump shooter, as was John Havelicek.

While I am not enamored of him personally-the best pure mid range shooter I have ever seen with the knicks was Bill Bradley. No great move but catch and shoot or going off a screen, incredibly deadly. If he was open-you could count it. Similarly, Bird was a sure thing if he was open mid range.

I thought of that during the day today. Although, unlike you, I admire Dollar Bill a lot.
