Two of the three identified players have to go. Given that Amare and Bargnani are injury prone, I would elect to move them as soon as possible. Neither of the three can play defense, and they are all inconsistent offensively.

Find a way to turn Amare and Bargnani's expiring contracts into draft picks and clear the logjam we have in the Guard department as well. With draft picks, we can draft players that fit the TRIANGLE.

A tall PG that can shoot and defend
Catch and shoot specialists. Get two of them.

Can we turn Bargnani into a trade for Monroe? Is that even possible? I like Gasol, but I don't believe he will come to NY.

We have spot up shooters. That's never a hard position to fill. We need more slashing and good guard play. We need a post player. That's essential for the triangle. That and coachable players who will defend.

We need a strong rebounder at the PF spot that can also pass the ball. Fresh and younger legs that we can run offensive plays for when Carmelo is not on the floor. I remember the bonehead plays of Bargnani las season, I don't think he has the smarts to fill a spot with this system

We need top draft picks. Just let them come off the books may not be a smart way to use those players. If we can turn them into assets, it will better if you ask me.

I am hoping the Knicks move Amare to Philly at the deadline and get something. It saves the Sixers around 15 mil but the speculation around this move has the Knicks sending a pick.

yeah and once they're gone then the summer of 2015 becomes the first real year of the jackson era. ho-hum. because then the issue becomes, unfortunately, a question of who'll want to come to new york at that point.

anyone have any idea who will want to come to a team that just won 30-35 games? as i have been saying for months, the knicks HAVE TO show some genuine upside THIS season, and dumping players like stoudemire, bargnani, and smith is NOT the same thing as demonstrating growth and a promising trajectory.

they have another 20 games to show something, anything, in the way of progressing, gelling, growth, cohesion. it's a given that their defense is putting them in a 6-7 game hole to begin with. does anyone see a .500 ballclub in the making here? i mean they're 2-8. to get to 15-15 after 30 games means they need to go 13-7 starting tomorrow by winning at home against denver. does anybody see that?

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

an awful lot seems to be riding on calderon's return. one wonders about the ever-elusive chemistry that has been the bête noire of the last 4 years.

I think I read somewhere that CAsey said Toronto's current line up for the most part grew up under Calderon. I think he is that kind of presence. Hopefully he is back soon. The Knicks have been known to under report injuries in the past.

I'd definitely look into trading expirers for bad contracts and picks. Cap space alone won't solve this problem, which is why we need to embrace and enhance the other tools at our disposal. We all agree that Jackson will have a hard time finding players that are worth the max, so why are we looking to only maximize cap space?

As for tall combo guards that we should have interest in developing, 6"3' Corey Joseph comes to mind. He won't be getting much burn behind Parker and Mills (when he gets back), now or in the future, so maybe the Spurs might be inclined to move him for a steady, veteran hand like Pablo Prigioni. After all, Pablo is allegedly good friends with Ginobli and fits the Spurs team-first culture. Maybe we could do Prigioni and cash for Joseph.

We're just talking about what's most likely. It's certainly possible you could trade these guys for something worthwhile but I don't expect it. Teams have great trade advantages if they're under the cap too. Or you could sign several good players. Signing max FAs is just one of many reasons to have cap space.

i don't think the Knicks take back salary that impacts 2015. It woukd be like last year when the sixers traded for Granger.
