How about a trade....

Amare, JR Smith, Shane Larkin

for

Josh Smith, Brandon Jennings, Greg Monroe

Why would Detroit do it? They get expirings and get out of the Josh Smith contract.

Why would we do it? We get bigs that in paper should be good in the triangle and a dynamic PG.

Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings are exactly the types of players we do NOT need on this team. Second of all, their contracts are atrocious. Shudder. Just the thought gives me ajita

I would take Brandon and Josh smith.... it's about who fits the system.

Josh smith is a check guy right now in Detroit. He only signed there to get paid. If he came to ny he would be great for us at the 4 next to Melo at the 3. Josh is a good passer, mid range shooter, cutter, defender finisher.

Brandon Jennings would be great to have split time with calderon learning how to be a pro.

I don't want Monroe at all.

Josh Smith would not become the player he's supposed to be if exposed to CancerMelo.

Josh Smith? Stay away from all players with last name Smith. As for Jennings, he is as bad as JR
Thank God Fisher is no longer our coach, now let's get Calderon out of here:)

That is what I am thinking. I understand that Josh Smith and Jennings might be bad seeds but we must admit that they have the tools for the triangle.

Josh Smith is one of the worst mid range shooters in the league. If not the worst. Take a look. Imagine him heaving in the triangle. I'm getting dizzy just thinking about that.

I don't think Stan Van Gundy would do it.

But it would be fascinating, just from a rubber necking perspective, to imagine a team with Melo, JR and Josh Smith, Brandon Jennings and then the Knicks traded for Chuck Hayes.

They could start their own nickname.

The Five Chuckers.

The Lakers with Kobe and Nick Young have nothing on the Five Chuckers. (Poor Chuck Hayes would probably stab himself in the eyes during midseason or maybe the rest of the team would take the knives and fight each other for the right to heave up the ball again. )

I joked last year about that being the Knicks team after we make out big "splash"

It would be hilarious if it actually happened

The proposed trade has JR heading out. I think the trade is better for the Knicks. Not sure SVG does it. He already has the better version of Shane in Detroit. Also, if they move Josh I think Monroe would be open to staying.

If the Pistons were willing to give up their 2015 first round pick (unprotected), I'd do it. I'd probably try to buyout Smith and Jennings immediately to maintain some degree of cap space. Hopefully the pick would be high enough for us to select two of Jahlil Okafor, Emmanuel Mudiay and/or Stanley Johnson. Build on that with Melo and a Reggie Jackson.

The only way I'm taking back Josh Smith and/or Brandon Jennings in a trade is if I'm getting a 1st round pick for each of them; or at least one future 1st and the right to swap. I'd love to get their unprotected 2015 but I doubt that happens.

Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

No it wouldn't. Jennings and Smith are on the books for too much money the next 2 years and won't agree to buyouts (Smith makes 14 million in 2016/2017). There's no reason to take on all that long-term money, even for Detroit's high pick.

At this point, the Knicks should be giving away J.R. Smith and Calderon for expirings if they can, letting it bottom out for a high pick and keep the flexibility while drafting a young player.

Not saying that they would. But if they were interested in dumping those guys for the price of their pick, I'd oblige them. Yes, the pick has a hell of a lot of trade value but Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings (to a lesser extent) are net negative players. So they'd have to pay to party.

They probably wouldn't give up their pick....unless our package included cap flexibility and the opportunity to win now. Van Gundy doesn't seem to be especially patient with his plan to build that team, so if we satisfy those prerequisites, we might have a deal especially if he thinks he'd have a shot at the playoffs.

P.S., I haven't seen the Pistons play this year but Jennings seems to be having a good season from a numbers standpoint. He might not be the dead weight that I initially thought.

I doubt that Smith and Jennings would wallow with teams that don't want them. If that point is made clear, I think a buyout would proceed accordingly. They could easily recoup the amount with the new teams they'd sign with.
