Even when he is defending a SF, he will cheat and try to get a rebound even if is man is Kyle Korver, Danny Green, and he has been burned many times over his career trying to get the rebound when his man is a sniper
Now if he is defending someone that can shoot and penetrate, he is dead regardless, but he has to try to contend the shot and stay in front of his man

There is a reason why he has played his best basketball as a PF and even Center in the Olympics
As he gets older, he will get even slower, less mobile, less athletic, and I believe he will have to do some hard training in the summer to be able do this

Training in the summer, he should get look to get stronger but still increase his speed/quickness, without bulking up too much
Even when he "lossed" 30pds or whatever during this summers "workouts", he didn't gain any speed/quickness/mobility

CA takes a beating at PF but unless we have a F like Thad Young, who will always have to defend the harder defender, I think CA defends the PF better and he actually facilitates much better as he creates mismatches
A player like Thad Young would allow CA to defend SF and sometimes PF's switching, and Thad Young can also initiate a fast break or finish it to push the tempo
If we go BIG in this position, CA will have to be able to defend his the SF as Monroe or the traditional PF's like David West cannot defend SF's but would fit in the Triangle
Howevever, I don't see CA adding any speed/quickness/mobility/athleticism despite losing all that weight this past summer

Like I said, when he plays the PF, he also creates more mismatches, rather than camping outside for the 3pt shot where he doesn't have the speed/handles to blow by a SF and a help defender
However, when he plays the PF, that is one of the opponents rebounders/help defenders/shot blockers, so there usually is only one player that can help which is the Center
Now if he isn't able to penetrate all the way, he can probably get a good pull up or get a assist for a wide open shot or a good timely cut

In the end,
I think he has to be able to mix it up, be able to play PF/SF, inside/outside
That is when CA is the most effective
If we can build a similar team to run a philsophy that is closest to TEAM USA within the next 2 years before he goes downhill, it would be ideal
Players that can do a bit of everything and versatile enough to play both OFF and DEF to defend 2-3 positions, with 1-2 able to defend 3-4 (some just for help defense/switches)

Dalembart needs to be removed. Hes been brutal a - player every night. We cant score--we need more fire power in the starting unit and the way to make that happen is to move Smith to starting C Melo up to 4 and insert Timmy at 2 guard. Dalembart is a weak link.

I still think Amare and Jason Smith are the best front court players. I would go with.

You cannot win at that pace--we have to change to mitigate our offensive deficiency. Staring Amare at 4 is not a long-term solution. I do not believe he can handle the load and we have seen evidence that having Amare and melo on the floor for extended time is not in the Knicks best interests.

With Carmelo moved to 4 in 2011-2013 after Woodson took over we had a period of 72 wins and 34 loses for a 700 win %. Carmelo since moving back to 3--his rebounding totals have dropped in half--from an average of 8 over that 106 game run to 4 this season. He clearly can rebound as a 4 man in the NBA and at 6-8 240 is more than big enough to play the position.

Analytic's win here folks--having Melo at the 4 with Amare coming off the bench is in our best interests. Numbers do not lie---we are 29th in the league in scoring and we need immediate change. We are LUCKY to have won2 games at this offensive pace.

It's not rocket science
