Technically he got the max he could get

On a 4yr deal but he didn't get D-Rose max[Designated 5yr Max]

He hadn't completed his 4th yr yet

So he'll get 25% of whatever the cap figure is next yr

Had he waited and completed his 4th yr he would have been

Entitled to 5yrs at 30%

Something like 4yrs $60mil? $15m per?

I wonder if when he is 30 if he gets offered 5yrs $130mil? $25m per?

Is he worth that kind of max or should he take a pay cut to help his team build a winner?

4yrs near $70mil or possibly more

It depends on where the cap is at

And because of his defense. That was the main reason GS wouldn't trade him for Love.

Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

Yep yep. He is a 'two way' player.

It was more because Curry is a pretty bad defender so having Curry and Love playing together would be a defensive disaster. Klay is by all accounts a decent defender but he isn't all world D by any means. He's getting paid for being a helluva shooter.

I _think_ Thompson's going to continue to get better, his defense is tight but it continues to improve, and he's worth the max, right now, to GS but . . . I don't think it's a given that a max contract is the right move for GS. Will he end with a better career than, oh, Joe Johnson? Probably. Will be end up better than Allan Houston? Maybe. I have trouble imagining a better backcourt mate for Curry but I also have trouble imaging Thompson performing at a high level without Curry. The upside, for now: More ridiculously fun GS ball for at least a few years. The downside: GS never quite makes it over the hump with the the team they have now.

Warriors painted themselves into a corner- as soon as they refused to trade him for Kevin Love, they kind of had to pay Klay the max.

How do they get better? Not my problem but they have alot of money invested and no way to get better.

Joe Johnson has better rebounding and assist numbers looking at the stats side by side.

Edit: well I was looking at the numbers on my phone and was looking at the wrong columns on basketball red. bottom line is they aren't so dramatic in terms of the difference. But Johnson averaged 2 more assists and 1 more rebound per game at the same age as Klay.

We will have to offer someone the max to get them, either gasol, Monroe, Millsap, or Jefferson. I'm hoping we have enough money left over for either Matthews, afflalo, or Danny green, who would all be great fits as 2-way players in the triangle.

" . . . no way to get better . . ." ??

GS has some real assets. Thompson and Lee might be tricky to trade because of their contracts but, hmmmmmmmm, I'd guess nearly everyone else on that team has some value. Perhaps there's not enough there to trade for another star but surely Barnes, Ezeli, Green, Livingston, Iguodala, and even Bogut and his large contract have some value. Lee is under contract through next year, IIRC so he's probably tradeable next year if not this year. It seems to me that they have some flexibility and it's more likely that they will have trouble holding on to players than they will trading a surplus player for a needed player.
