IT'S SURGERY FOR THOMAS

By MARC BERMAN
June 2, 2004 -- Knicks power forward Kurt Thomas will undergo surgery tomorrow at Beth Israel Hospital on his dislocated right pinkie.

Thomas injured the pinkie in late January but never missed a game, wearing a splint on his shooting hand. He was diagnosed with a dislocation when he saw specialists in his hometown Dallas after the Knicks were bounced out of the first round in a sweep against the Nets.

According to agent Jerry Hicks, Thomas won't be able to shoot a basketball for two to three months. He postponed surgery until this week so he could attend today's luncheon banquet at Merrill Lynch that will announce the winners of the Kurt Thomas Investment Challenge.

early morning high, wow.

Surgery on the pinky is no knee surgery. I don't think this will effect any trade talks.

I was expecting to read something like "he got his crazy eyes fixed." Or hear Isiah's press conference; "after the lobotomy we expect Kurt's fouls to minutes ratio to drasticly decrease."

you must have misunderstood, cause it's the first lobotomy he underwent a few years ago that made his foul number to increase. there is no brain left to remove now.

yeah i realize it's not a knee surgery or anything, but it certainly can't help the cause either.

Does that include technical and flagrant fouls?

Exactly; if I were a GM who wanted Kurt, NO WAY would I let this interfere with obtaining the player I wanted on my team

KURT THOMAS HAS SURGERY

By MARC BERMAN

June 4, 2004 -- While Kurt Thomas' dislocated right pinkie went under the knife yesterday, Allan Houston continued to stay clear of surgery. Knicks prez Isiah Thomas said Houston's progress has made surgery on his sore knees not an option.
"He's been doing well with his therapy, feeling good," Isiah said. "He doesn't want to have surgery and thinks without it he'll be able to perform next season."

Houston was unable to play in the playoffs while Thomas didn't miss a game despite his injured shooting hand. The Knicks announced Thomas was operated on by Dr. Charles Melone to "repair the extensor tendon" in his pinkie. Melone performed Patrick Ewing's infamous wrist surgery seven years ago.

The Knicks said Thomas will be in a cast for "four to six weeks" before beginning therapy, which could be a reason he smartly accepted the Knicks' contract extension instead of becoming a free agent. He'll be off a basketball court for three months but the Knicks said he'll be ready for October's training camp.

Knicks continued pre-draft workouts yesterday with forward Bryant Matthews (Virginia Tech), Brian Boddicker (Texas) and Ricky Minard (Morehead State).
