They don't call him the Zen Master for nothin'.

I'm seeing a lot of references to mindfulness in the tech startups, Google, and "TED talk" type of organizations.

This team can use all the help it can get. I have no problem with Phil using every method he knows that could help.

IMO mental focus has been an issue in the past so I think these players could use some techniques for being in the moment. Remember the losses last year where players didn't know time and score which led to awful mindless decisions.

Ha! I had to do three months of it as part of my studies. I'm not a fan of it myself (in fact I hate it!), but some people find it useful for dealing with anxiety and helping them ground themselves. It's about improving awareness of thoughts and feelings, accepting them and letting them pass rather than dwelling on them, or getting stuck on ruminating. It attempts to focus people on the here and now rather than the past or future. I found it boring and annoying, but other folk got something out of it.

Yeah, I've done it on and off for years. It's hard to keep at it!

Sounds like Phil is trying too hard

How about focusing on the roster-product on the court

It's very apparent after his time here, what 8 mos

His zenism isn't sinking in on some players

Phil introducing techniques to develop the minds of our players is a good move, IMO. You can't argue with Phil's success in his own life.

Personally, I have done Transcendental Meditation(TM) for decades and have taught it. TM is very effective for enhancing the focus of the mind in activity; relieving stress; increasing learning ability; and developing consciousness. Mindfulness can help some people but it is more superficial. TM actually changes the brain waves to a more coherent and powerful style of functioning.

Is this really what you took away from this news?

What better way to focus on the roster on the court by getting that roster to better focus on the court?
