The NBA was getting under 1 million a year and now they are looking to make 2 billion a year.

WOW. The Cap may explode.

This is crazy. 2 Billion a year (or is it 2.4?) divided by 30 teams = $66,666,666 per team. If the players get roughly half(?) that is roughly 33 million a year more per team for the players. Yes, the salary cap would go up big. (Not sure if this will displace other money though). Still, the cap should go up HUGE.

This deal was anticipated and its baked into the valuations of the teams.

Before we get too excited remember not just the knicks get more money, all teams get it.
Salaries will go much higher now. Durant's gonna get paid if he stays or not.

Exactly this isn't STATIC it's DYNAMIC

It also calls for grossly overpaying talent

Maybe, maybe not. Silver can apply some to next years cap to allow teams to ease into the new flux of cash. I doubt they will go from 70m to 88m in one season

NBA to announce $24 billion/9 year deal w/ ESPN and TNT on Monday. Annual average value nearly 3x current deal.

Tim Bontemps @TimBontemps · 12h 12 hours ago

As I said earlier, now this is all about how the NBA will have these numbers hit the salary cap. Could have massive ramifications.

Tim Bontemps @TimBontemps · 21m 21 minutes ago

NBA will now get D-League, Summer League games televised on ESPN's family of networks.

Salary cap will explode. TV revenue is literally tripled.

It really changes a lot.

The real challenge for the Knicks will be to find a new way to make Melo an albatros franchise killer because it looks like his salary crushing any Knick hopes might be off the docket. I guess he can always get hurt... gotta have *something* for the somber faithful to hold out on.

anyone know if CA's contract goes up with the cap, meaning if his contract is currnetly at under 25m for the 2016/17 season
Currently he is being paid under 23m this year with the cap at about 63m

If the cap is seat at 88m, does his contract rise with the cap, if my math is correct it would be about over a third of the cap
So about 30m

I would like to keep the amount of years the same, think it is better for the league to have shorter contracts to prevent further one year wonders like Jerome James
Players looking to cash in for 1 year, even players using leverage against their own teams to keep being contenders like Rashard Lewis in Orlando/Joe Johnson in Atlanta
That extra from 4 vs 5 for free agents and 5 vs 6 with bird rights, in the past CBA, allows bad contracts/career ending surgeries and lazy players to a limit

It is also reminds players to continue to develop their games, stay healthy, etc
Unlike the NFL, teams do not get to terminate contracts

However, Lebron wants to totally eliminate THE MAX a player can recieve, which I think is bad business, unless it is only for 1 year deals like Jordan did
Even that I think needs a limit though, I believe Jordan was making 30m + in his final years, while Scottie Pippen was making 1m or so Jordan could make his and keep the team intact as a dynasty

Ironic how Jordan will now be against limiting how much a player could make since he has demanded nothing but the MAX as a player and is so competive this day, even as an owner, will not give up without a fight
He has finally built a team that is good enough to contend by staying out of basketball related decisions, especially not favoring NC players

Though aging, Al Jefferson has a player option after this year and MKG will be a restricted FA's after this year
Even Kemba Walker will become a UFA
They could keep those talents or go for cheaper options, as they are very deep and talented now

OK - I didn't think the change was THAT big!

When the NBA last negotiated with ESPN and TNT, back in 2007, the result was an eight-year, $7.44 billion deal. Now we’re talking nine years, $24 billion.

Then - 925 million per yr or 1 billion if you want to round up.
Expected -2.7 billion per yr.

At the end of the day it gives Phil more possibilities then he would have had without it. That's all that matters.

Hopefully everyone is content with Melo's deal now. It's potentially a steal with the salary cap projections.

Yeah, for whatever reason, the NFL is far more profitable than the other leagues. MLB comes in second. NBA and NHL like 3 year old kids trying to wrestle grown men.

yeah talk about discount, the Cap is suppose to be somewhere around 88 million.

The bad part, it will go back to the days when you would offer crack head players a boat load of money.
Everybody knows that the more money you have, the more dumb sht you buy that you don't really need.

I don't think the scaling will start until 2016 regardless,

I think they'll come up with base incremental projections

Over the course of those 9yrs and should there be
