Was rooting for Galloway in SL. Had the one great game, but looks like he needs some seasoning, especially as a ball handler. He already has an NBA jumper, but needs some overall confidence. There were times in SL when he really seemed hesitant on the offensive end.
I really think that someone on the Knicks likes what he might become as a player- and I'm betting that its Fisher- who might see a 6'2" player who can shoot and might be able to be a PG in the triangle at some point, but once again, he either needs to be a better ball handler or get a better understanding of what the offensive system is about. I expect that coaches saw him, as well as Wear, do some things in practice that made them think it was worth it to sign both of them to a training camp contract- which gives them some control over them in terms of the DLeague.
Hope he shows something and plays with our DL team. He is the kind of player who the DLeague was made for, especially if the DL team has the same style of play as the parent team.
I really wish the NBA could have more of a "farm system," where a team can have the rights to multiple players (say 5, for instance) for at least 3 years. Bump the max salary to 70G. First year player gets 30G, if the team wants to keep him he gets 50G the second year, and tops out at 70G. If he is not brought up to the parent team after 3 years, he goes into a draft pool in which other teams can take him.
A system, like in MLB, where a team can move players between the parent-team and its "minor league" affiliate a number of times might also be instituted. The DL players a team has might also be used like the NFL "taxi-squad" system, I suppose.
The money involved is relatively minimal, and I think it could help a team develop young players and also give fans something else to root for.
