The Knicks presented other challenges. Yet there’s a belief that the Toronto media is actually pretty tough on all teams in the city, not just the Leafs, based on numbers alone. Did running the Knicks have elements of the Gotham media nightmare some suggest? What was the difference between Toronto and New York, strictly in terms of media and fan restlessness?

It was two different philosophies from the organizations. The Knicks’ media policy was that we weren’t to talk to the media unless we had an announcement. I had almost a negligible relationship with the media in New York so I sort of referred to myself as the ‘invisible GM.’ In Toronto, the organization was obviously more open with the media. I didn’t have bad relationships with the media in New York, I just didn’t have relationships with the media in there. The point that New York City is tough media market is probably true, but Toronto is not far behind. I think, as you mentioned, that because of the numbers — four major daily newspapers in Toronto, two all-sports networks, radio and Internet, that there’s a presence and competition amongst media members that I wouldn’t say is harsh, but raises the criticism, let’s say, more than a one-newspaper town that many NBA markets are.

He made some good moves, and some bad, he sort of a 2 step forward 2 step back kind of GM. I think every GM we have seem to make one good move and counter it 2 or three bad moves.

Great move-Trade ewing in the last year of his cap killing contract and his wobble knees
Bad Move- getting back marginal talent and a sht load of higher and longer contracts

Great Move-Retaining allan Houston one of the best shooters in league history
bad move- Out bidding themselves and then running him into the ground and then bringing him back way to quick

Great Move-Hiring Isiah
Bad move- Hiring Isiah, this was a good move that turn bad real quick

great move- Getting maubury in his prime to replace howard eisly and play alongside allan houston
Bad move- taking back a sht load of longer and untradable contracts to get him, then watching allan retire a yr later

Great move- hire MDA to coach a nice set offensive players in steph, JC, Randolph, Lee
BAD MOVE - traded them all away along with draft picks in order to dump salary.

great Move- Building a roster around amare and MDA's system, retaining our young assets,
Bad Move - traded all of them for melo in a move no one was press to do except the dolan

Great Move- Building a veteran roster, highlighted by a jason kidd signing
Bad Move- letting Lin walk, trading Novak and more picks, the timing or grunwalds firing,

there's a host of more bad sht in between, but these were the highlights of the last 13 yrs

It's been All good with Phil so far, I pray he has the sense of an investor.
