The Utah Jazz are closing in on a deal to sign free-agent guard Toure' Murry away from the New York Knicks, according to NBA front-office sources.

Sources told ESPN.com that the Jazz are finalizing a two-year, $2 million contract with Murry.

The Knicks, sources say, have been trying this month to convince Murry to hold off on signing elsewhere as they try continue to sort out their roster, with New York hopeful of bringing back the athletic combo guard after allowing Murry to become an unrestricted free agent at end the June.

The Miami Heat were another reported suitor for Murry and the Los Angeles Lakers, sources said, expressed interest in Murry this week before the Jazz secured a commitment from the 24-year-old.

Murry averaged a mere 2.7 points and 1.0 assists in 7.3 minutes per game last season but showed promising flashes in 2013's summer league with the Knicks as well as the final two games of New York's 2013-14 campaign, averaging 12.5 points and 3.5 assists in 25.5 minutes per game in those two appearances.

Why would he wait for the knicks to make a "POSSIBLE" trade to get him a roster spot (not even real PT), and lose out on 2 mill?

Because he can learn more under fish....grow under phil...And make more long term money with the ny media and tv exposure. He's also a phil jackson type of guard.

The answer is he wont, at least I'm pretty sure his agent will tell him not to wait. The contract will have an expiration date, he'll probably let the Knicks know when his signature is due but past that it would not be prudent for him to wait.
Rose is not the answer.

If he were a Phil Jackson kind of guard, why didn't they keep room for him and have him signed by now.

Ive never understood the excitement for this guy. Nothing against him, he just strikes me as bottom of the barrel NBA talent. I guess you never know where the next Lin is coming from but I never saw it in Murray

He has talent, I'm not sure how much better he can get, but he can definitely make a rotation. I think phil was trying to see if another trade for one of our current guards would take place.

I liked Frank alot... another Knick who ate his way out of the league. Knicks had no right making the playoffs that one year but remember when Frank took a shot from the then worshipped Jason Kidd got up and shoved him? That was the only memorable moment I think in that whole era

Murry passed up a chance to get a ring with Miami to play for us, so I wish him all the best. Nice guy, hope he does well in Utah.

Whether you agree or not, I believe Phil was trying to trade Pablo and make room for a young backup PG to learn the system. Murray or some future backup guard. No need to have Pablo ride the bench as the third string....At his age, he needs to go where he will get more playing time. Phil will either use Calderon or one of the other SG's we have, since a normal PG role is not needed for the triangle.

I was in the Frank Williams Fan Club too. He finally got his opportunity as a starting PG, and was looking good, right before we made the Marbury trade. Shame he couldn't stick in the league.

I think that's a trend with most ex Knick players....What does that tell you about the quality of players we usually get?

The Jazz just signed Dee Bost to a three year deal. I believe he is the combo guard that played in the back court with Pierre Jackson last year. I wonder if this means they are moving on from Murry.

I wonder where that leaves Ian Clark. I'd love for the Knicks to get there hands on that dude: 6'3", quick, good handle, GREAT shooter, quality defender and he's making good progress as a PG. I'd love to see Phil pry that kid loose somehow.
