God i miss the 90's knicks. Grew up watching them and even though they never won the big one they still were a contender close to a decade. We all know the past 15 years have been very bad so it makes us appreciate the 90's knicks. Hopefully good times are coming now that Phil jackson is running the show

The game has changed so much since then. Phil is going to be headed more in the finesse direction of the Spurs. Super High IQ BB!!! That's what we'll see at best from this team from now on. The rugged game is gone from the NBA for the most part. Never really loved the offense from the 90's team tho.

I'm curious to see how Early and his young teammates are developed defensively. I think we already saw how they can play on offense in SL. I liked what I saw defensively from Larkin despite his small stature. I wasn't really able to gauge much of Early's defensive game yet. Thanasis is a bit too aggressive but you can see he's got the good defensively. I hope Thanasis can be developed asap cuz I can see him being a real weapon defensively. I can imagine a lineup with Larkin, Shump, Thanasis, Early and Cole being a good defensive unit. Not very big but super high energy.

I was such a big Derek Harper fan. We didnt win it all, but we did represent. It was a lot of fun to be a fan back then. I don't know if Jackson will get us to the promised land again, but I am confident that he has the skill set to turn this team into a legitimate threat again, if Dolan stays in the background.

If I remember correctly, Ewing and Rivers had a decent two man game going before Rivers got hurt and we picked up Harper.

For me, Doc was the better offensive player and PG, although Harper could do those things also and was a better defender. Can't remember how Doc's D was at that point in his career.

Would we have been a better team in the end if Rivers had not gotten injured?

Just wondering.

EnySpree: Can we agree to agree not to mention Phil Jackson and triangle for the rest of our lives?

We made it to game 7 of the NBA finals with Harper as our PG. As much as I liked Rivers and thought he was doing a good job at point, I don't believe his absence caused us to miss out on a ring as much as Starks cratering in game 7 and the Dream outplaying Ewing through seven games. It was a long time ago but I vaguely remember Harper being a more tenacious defender. I loved his attitude and the team seemed to have more of a chip on their shoulder with Harper at point. Loved it when Harper took down Jo Jo Engish.

I felt like the 90's knicks were absolutely cursed in a way. Everytime it seemed like we were about to win it all something went went wrong from the heat brawl,to the oj simpson chase,to starks going 2-18. Its a shame because the 90's knicks deserved a title

The biggest curse was Jordan, unfortunately.

yea... I was about to say. Gary Payton, Stockton/Maloney, Barkley, Ewing... the 90s were riddled with great HOF players who couldnt get past Jordan's Bulls.

Derek Harper was superior to Doc Rivers at that point. Derek played better defense, passed better, and hit his shots more frequently. But it wasn't a huge drop off to Doc. It WAS a huge drop off to Greg Anthony though. His shot selection was atrocious, his D got progressively worse as his confidence went down, and he just wasn't the player the Knicks imagined when they drafted him at #12 in 1991.

The team was better with Harper, but would have been better if Anthony had the injury, and not Doc. But Doc was out of the league in a year or two anyways.
