I have read some of the changes that silver was discussing about the nba. first, which is more realistic, is changing the draft. it looks like with the new system that it will make it more difficult for tanking teams to win. it might not make sense since the cavs weren't the worst team when they won but I guess it gives hope to all bottom teams.

also they mentioned, which is more fantasy, a mid season tournament with the top teams in the division. I do love that idea. any more competitive basketball is a plus in my book. however, what prize would the top team get? also would you shorten the season or create a new collective bargaining agreement to lengthen the season? would the player's union go for it? not to mention the wear and tear of players. I heard a great idea on svp and russillo with combining both. why not a tournament involving the six last place teams and the top three winners of the tournament get the first three picks? they can play during that week between the end of the season and the first round. I like that more. what do you guys think?

The length of the season is fine, IMO. Lengthen it and you have to increase the cap for added salaries.

Regarding the tournament... you would need some kind of flexible schedule system for the season. Each team plays every other team at least twice-no? If they play each other in the mid-season tournament, that game would simply count as one of their two games. Got to make sure that no team finishes all its games against an opponent before the mid-season tournament. Knicks play Lakers in the tournament- then the game they would have played in the second half of the season becomes a day off for each team. People with tickets for the second half of the season game that is eliminated, are the fans who get to go to the tournament game.

that sounds like a sound plan. then the teams that are in the tournament will have the same rest days as those who have off.

What's the point of a mid season tournament?

Do we really think that guys on the bad teams will be invested in playing competiitvely so the franchise gets a high pick? What about guys on the team who are free agents who plan to go to one of the other worst teams? And what about a guy on a bad team who plays center and if his team picks first he will lose his job because the number one pick is a can't miss center?

They want to do a "march madness" thing.

I thought for years they should do a preseason tournament with the winner getting a top 4 seeding and maybe home court advantage?

DLeague changes are what I would like to see too.

Don't see why a team can't be allowed a certain amount of $$ to have a kind of farm team.

Add 3 more rounds to the draft, and let teams be able to have some control over a group of players they can groom. After X number of years, if they are not brought on to the parent team they can go on the open market or maybe even become some kind of restricted FA.

what they should do is allow the D League to be a minor league like baseball, allow players 18 years old to enter the draft - then you don't have to have all the corruption with money as good young men can get paid to do what they want to do, eliminate one and done and kids going off to Europe for a year.

But, of course, there is one monied institution in the way: NCAA!

this.. it prob just comes down to market. Indy baseball teams thrive in my area (NYC burbs). The Somerset Patriots have a nice team. Would you pay $15 or $20 bucks a ticket to see a minor league NBA type team in a 1000 seat arena? I think that would be pretty cool. Have a 20 man roster, use the team for rehabs, prospects, etc
