Just curious where you guys are at as far as adding another big goes:
Trade for Ersan Ilyasova
Try to pick up Carlos Boozer cheap (just amnestied by the Bulls)
Neither -- we're good up front after adding Jason Smith

It's getting repetitious.

At least nobody's wondering about Bynum anymore.

Feel Ilyasova could be similar to Novak's success but can actually be an above average defender/rebounder and offers versatility at the SF/PF
He is a role player and is paid a bit more but he can be play a vital role with a strong team

I preferred Bayless to Sessions because he is the better defender but Sessions's game is very under rated, he has always been one of the better penetrating G's with the ability to finish/facilitate/and now hit the open 3pter consistently

Would also be interested in Edoh, who they cut, but could trade them both to us

So if we can trade for Ilyasova, Sessions, Edoh, and even Delfino if needed, I would do it if we can unload JR Smith, Pablo, Ellington, fill ins to make salary work, and not sure if we want to use our 3.6m trade exemption, as we could use it in a trade next season as well
We could trade Kmart, owning his early bird rights, while Kidd would get back JR Smith/Kmart to work with if he wanted them, of course Kmart would have to agree to a non guaranteed type money for their 2nd/3rd seasons

Feel Jeff Adrien is a steal for the vet min contract, other steals this summer at the vet min include
Rashard Lewis
Jeff Adrien
Drew Gooden
Brandon Rush *I know he hasn't done much since his injury but prior to his injury he was one of the most efficient players in the entire league on the bench*

Other contracts that are above the vet min, in the range of the mini MLE include

Bayless a bit over 3m
Dejuan Blair *2 year, total 6m deal that is a team option for 3rd year*
James Johnson the room exemption

Bayless/Augistine is setting the market price for Sessions at about 3m

Some free agents out there that I would have interest in that would fit in with our system include

Jermaine Oneil
Shawn Marion

though both would need to take a huge discount in order to be NYK's

Some vet mins still available include

Darrius Morris
Dante Cunningham *not sure if the vet min would be enough but don't think that is enough but with our lack of SF/PF's, he just might do a 1 year deal*
Devin Ebank's, though would have prefered James Johnson, we can likely sign him for a unguaranteed/partial guaranteed contract for 2 seasons

With Morris and Ebank's, I am sure they have some familiarity with The Triangle, as the players still ran it on The Laker's despite Phil Jackson not being the head coach

I read Bayless signed with Milwaukee. I wish we could've gotten him. Missed opportunity for us here imo. Could've been a huge upgrade over Prigioni, at the very least. He would've had to win the spot of course but I would've brought this guy in to be my lead guard, with Larkin backing him up and Calderon relegated to 3rd PG...Interested to see the contract Hammonds gave him and what he could do in Milwaukee with a green light and steady PT. I like Jason Smith but starting to think we could've spend our mini-MLE a little wiser. Smith feels like a vet minimum guy to me, esp. given his injury history...I'm all for quality depth and Smith certainly qualifies but the fact remains that we gave this guy our full mini-MLE amount (albeit for 1 yr) and he might not even get in most games, esp. if we do bring in another big man. Weird signing a little when you think about it like that.

A bunch of these guys signed deals over the last day or so: I think Adrien signed with Houston. The Rockets also inked up Joey Dorsey. And the Warriors just signed Rush to a 2-yr deal. I also think James Johnson signed back in Toronto...

Good point about Morris and Ebanks possibly having some prior experience with the triangle, although I think both guys played for D'Antoni in LA, in his system. They're definitely two players that could play well in the triangle though...Both could be nice additions on the cheap if we felt we needed some more depth. Morris can do some nice things at the point (has good size at 6'4" and does everything well--has even become a better scorer since his days at Michigan) and Ebanks can really score the ball. I think I like Ebanks better than Cleanthony Early.

I'd definitely like to get Ilyasova in the orange & blue. In exchange for JR Smith & Pablo Prigioni, it would create instant roster balance...Call me crazy but if it took a sweetener like Early thrown in, I really think I'd do it (I'd turn around and immediately replace Early with Ebanks or DeQuan Jones on the cheap... Then I I'd look to replace Prigioni with Seth Curry or Kalin Lucas...Darius Morris is another good option too, I agree). Ilyasova would be a nice complementary piece for our frontcourt---I think he works very well in Phil's system and works well next to Melo. I think this guy could be a 15/10 PF if given enough playing time and utilized properly, maybe better than that...Add Cole Aldrich's rebounding/shot-blocking in the middle, that'd be a hell of a starting frontcourt.

JR Smith is completely unreliable and superfluous...we could use a guy like Ilyasova. I can't picture any scenario where we could get a better player than Ilyasova for JR Smith. Smith is one embarrassing scandal, one re-injuried knee, one late night out/hangover, one drug suspension or one huge meltdown in a big spot away from becoming completely untradeable. He's lucky Milwaukee even likes him (or should I say 'we're lucky')...To me, you do this deal for Ilyasova and RUN like you just robbed a bank! What's JR's best trait -- that he's a great 'bad shot shooter,' right? Is that what we really want in the triangle -- one of our top options freelancing and jacking bad shots? Oh, all of a sudden he found God and will play better and under control? Is that it? I ain't buying that for 1 sec....He'll always be talented but I have no faith in this guy whatsoever anymore. I'd love to unload him. And to think, we're possibly looking at an opportunity to get a versatile 6'10" PF that fits like a glove, is still pretty young, can rebound and pass the ball and has very good offensive skills for Smith. Complete no-brainer.

I don't want Ilyasova's contract. I'd take Boozer for 1 yr, but thats not realistic.

Ilyasova's contract runs 3 more yrs, but the 3rd yr is a team option. He really only has 2 yrs left on the books...Together JR and Pablo's contracts equal the same amount of time and for practically the same money. It'd be a wash, cap-wise. As such, I'd rather have Ilyasova here than those two.

Yeah, I saw that. WTF--make up your minds...LOL.

I'm still thinking one more big man for depth possibly -- maybe a DJ White, who I've always liked (I remember seeing Charlotte play the Knicks at the Garden a few years ago and this dude White absolutely killed us -- he can shoot the ball and was a good rebounder/post defender/scorer in college) or Richard Howell. Howell can rebound and score inside out to about 15'. His body and style of play are very similar to DeJuan Blair's. Just a good player -- good in college, good in the DL last yr and good in the Philippines. He be an excellent choice on a league minimum deal..

Not gonna happen but I'd buy out Pablo too. I just want 1 more younger/quicker PG option, even if it's the 3rd guy, to go along with Calderon and Larkin. Calderon/Prigioni feels way to geriatric to me. I'd rather have a younger guy with speed and upside spearheading our attack. A guy that could add some more firepower...I hope Fisher actually plays Larkin real mins..

I noticed that Timmy was bringing the ball up the court a lot during the summer league games and I'm wondering if maybe Fish is thinking about using him at the point some during the season??

Would not want him bringing it up under any kind of pressure.

As I try to understand the Triangle, though, it seems like my idea of what role a PG is and does must change.

Phil does not believe a player should be holding on to the ball for more than 2 seconds, and you usually don't see his PGs dribbling for 5 seconds, do a crossover, and then drive and score or dish.

I like what I see, so far, but I want to see so far, and Ilyasova might have value in this style of offense, but I would not want to give up someone like Early to get him... not yet, anyway.

I'm really looking forward to Larkin getting real minutes, too. Might end up being the gem of the deal.

EnySpree: Can we agree to agree not to mention Phil Jackson and triangle for the rest of our lives?

JR has a player option in 2015 while Ilyasova's is guarnateed. Could mean $6mm on the cap.

I can't see any team giving Jr more than a 2 year deal ever again. I have my doubts he even opts out. He might have to be a 1 year deal mercenary player the rest of his career going to a different city each season for a team that has cap space and missed out on other FA's
