Yup yup

As disgusted as I am with the young Steinbrenners, Cashman and girardi that ad put a huge smile on my face and reminded me off all the good times

Jordan brand makes great commercials... no doubt about that.

I had season tickets from 97-2009... He's everything they say he is.

I don't know how you play damn near 20yrs in New York and manage to stay out of the spotlight. Not one blemish on his record off the field. Unfreakinbelievable. He is special. His family has a lot to do with it too

My wife showed me this and we both thought it was awesome -- we are definitely taking my 5-year-old son to Yankee Stadium this year so he can see Jeter before he retires, even though I know better...We just took the little guy to a Ducks game and he was a COMPLETE DISASTER -- had to get him a quacker (he's been to see the Ducks before, had gotten him a quacker and he lost it) -- he breaks the damn thing 10 mins later, had to get him another one; way too much "quacking" with the thing--drove me nuts after awhile-lol; took him to get food and he was a nightmare--running away from me, knocking into people--I swear, this kid never looks where he's going; explained to him that those bounce-houses they have set up on both sides were for private parties only that day--carried on anyway for 15 mins; running around in the aisles, climbing over seats, bothering this other guy by himself (told him 100 times to leave the poor man alone); quacker/Ducks foam hand waiver-thingy/hot dog/drink/cotton candy/ice cream barely kept him occupied for 3 innings!!! Oh yeah, then I took him to the bathroom to pee, we get back, I barely sit down, 2 mins. later he tells me he's gotta go back to the bathroom. "I gotta go doodie! I gotta go doodie!," he starts yelling...Had to pull the plug after that, I couldn't take no more...LMAO!! And we were with my buddy and his wife and son, who's about 3 years older than my kid, and of course was an angel sitting in his seat the whole time, into the game, etc..

He's a great kid and cracks us up all the time, we love him to pieces, but his attention span's just not there yet for some things (you should've seen him at T-Ball -- WOW, the mother load of DISASTERS!!). Someone tell me it gets better!! HA HA!

Still, I kinda agree with the old lady -- after watching this, we're gonna take him to see Jeter this year. Watch, the game we wind up taking him to, Girardi rests him!! LOL!!

funny post. TBall is highlarious. All the kids are like labradors. Once that ball gets hit any notion of position is lost and you have 15 kids chasing the ball. Good stuff

Went to the Stadium a few weeks ago for the first time since I was a kid during the Bobby Mercer years. Just watching Jeter throw warmups with Soriano was a blast.

He's probably going to be the last of his kind. One team, one storied career.

Hate the Yankees- but a great ad.

I find it tragic that athletes like Jeter, Rivera, Duncan, etc., don't inspire young athletes like the hotdogs, hot heads, and hopped up players who seem to capture the imaginations of young people today. For the most part, even though I dislike the Yankees, they have usually had athletes you could respect for how they carried themselves on the field, even if you did not "like" them.

If Jeter had not played on a franchise willing to pay any amount to buy a championship, the ad would never have been made, and Jeter would have been known as a heady player, but not the player this ad portrays. Robin Yount was in many ways a better player- a much better hitter, but will never have Jeter's cache because his team (like Jeter, he only played for one) could not compete financially with a team like the Yankees. Same can be said for a guy like Tony Gwynn, who if he had been on the Yankees would probably have a monument in center field, already.

Yount was the same kind of competitor and class athlete as Jeter, but will probably not be considered in the same discussion because he did not play in NY and did not have a team with the $$ to compete for the kind of players the Yankees could go after. Gwynn, was the best pure hitter of his generation, a great outfielder, and one of the truly good guys in sports, but again, he was never on a team (also played his entire career in one place) that could put up the resources the Yankees could muster to buy players.

When guys like Jeter, who play old school ball on and off the field, are not lucky enough to be on championship teams, they are sooner forgotten, unless they do outrageous things on the field, or like Bonds and Sosa, and McGuire, they use chemicals to enhance their performance. His game, and guys like Duncan, don't have games which translate well into the sports video games people play- not enough "in your face" value, which seems popular.

Sad, but true.

Sorry Walt but your anti-yankee bias is talking. A much better hitter??? Maybe more power but Jeter has a lifetime batting average over 25 points higher. That doesn't translate to me as even a better hitter, and def. not " a much better" hitter. And I am old enough to have seen both of them in their careers.

fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

i got goosebumps and choked up too. he's gonna finish 6th alltime in hits, so many of them cluuuuutch.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Don't like the Yankees- and perhaps I exaggerated a bit, but you missed my point, though- which was much broader.

Just pointing out that there is a lot of chance involved here. A Jeter playing with the Padres or Brewers is simply not the same player. You don't build an offense around Jeter, he is very much dependent on having a great lineup around him. His rbi stats as a leadoff or 2nd hitter were also aided by the lack of a pitcher in the lineup and a great hitter behind him. Not many hitters you would want more than Jeter with a guy on 3rd that you needed knocked in, or a leadoff situation where you needed a walk or hit to start an inning, but when you look at the lineups and pitching the Yankees had, you can see why he had so many opportunities to shine.

I am also saying that players like Gwynn and Yount would be seen the same way if they had been in a similar situation.

Other than that, I'm also saying that this kind of player never get the recognition they truly deserve unless they are on Championship teams, and even then, the non-flamboyant players don't get the accolades they should get. This is true in many team sports.

I also think that even with all the respect Jeter gets from people who understand the sport, his style of play and demeanor does not seem to rub off in an era where "in your face," making a face into the camera, the spectacular play, or end zone dance, gets the publicity.

In basketball they highlight the dunk, not the great pass that led to it. In baseball they highlight the 500 ft homer of a .230 hitter who will end up with 160 strikeouts in a year, not the guy who gives himself up to move a runner to 3rd base.

Guys like Rivera and Jeter are a vanishing breed, and there are many like them who did not have the playing stage these guys had who might have been seen in the same light if not for chance.
