No, you can split the MLE. Several teams did it last year. You have the entire MLE to use. It's a $5 million exception to the cap that every team can use all of (provided they are over the cap). So the Mid Level Exception is not the name of the contract, but the name of the money available.

Hmmm. In that case we can try to go for quantity over quality with the MLE. How much of the MLE would Stephen Jackson require?

i think Jackson would be expecting at least a full MLE annual figure...maybe not for a full 6 year term, but definitely for at least the 5.1 mill or whatever the final figure is.

One team that split the exception was our very own Knicks. Deke and Lampe shared it.

Yes, you can split the MLE.

There have been years we don't use it at all.
