I'm presuming the initial plan was to re-sign Melo, with the promise of signing another star in 2015. Problem is, even if Melo did sign (and there's no guarantee of that), there are no 2015 FA stars left! Lebron, Wade and Bosh will be signing new contracts this offseason, Love will lively be traded to the Celtics, Rondo will likely re-sign with them too. Aldridge said he will re-sign with the Blazers. Who does that leave that would entice Melo?

Really, our best hope is a Melo S&T with the Bulls- should get us a few young pieces/picks and defenders, and allow us to establish a culture- slowly build on it over the next few years. I think even Melo can see that his hopes of being paired with an all-star here are over.

Still some talk about LBJ and Melo teaming up in Miami if Bosh goes to Houston.

I think according to the Berger article, if Bosh left, the signings of McRoberts and Granger count against their cap instead of the exceptions. That would leave less cap room and Wade, Melo and LeBron would all have to take several million less than the Max to fit under those constraints.

2015 plan was over from the start. I think Phil is an opportunist. When the right move comes we'll be ready for it

Yeah what is 2014, 2015, 2016....the Knicks have no picks for the next 3-4 years. When the opportunity arises to clear space, improve the team, and we do it in a prudent fashion you don't need to follow some sort of timeline.

We have our 2015 & 2017 & 2018 picks. Just have to stop giving them away

And we have- 2016 is going to hurt, but Phil seems to have put a stop to the giving away picks thing- cost us Lowry, but it was the right thing to do. If we can S&T Melo, hopefully we can add a pick or two.

We don't need to sign a max player - just add smart parts. And I would keep space always available for future contingencies. I'd love to be the Nets or Celtics where they can add talent & assets for enabling Cleveland to clear cap - same with Philly & Houston.

...might've cost us Melo too, in the long run. Not making the playoffs changed his entire outlook of the franchise moving forward. Last year this time, was his future with us ever really in doubt?

YUP and since Phil has been doing such a good job already of acquiring young talent I really don't see us as being in the same bad way as before. Now the team has some assets and we can still put a good team together and just do things naturally over the next few seasons. The 1st step is to just get the team to play good ball and develop a winning culture. We need a base to build off no matter who we try to bring in.

Seriously??? U want to be the Nets? Their future is terrible. No draft picks, over the hill players. No F'in way .

fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

I like our situation. We've got one thing to do and that is re-sign Melo and then 2015 is a reset of the cap. We will be in great position going forward. I like our youth and so we just need to make smart decisions from here on. We just let things play out and not get impatient as we did in the past.

I thought it was worth the gamble at the time but I never would've imagine deron's play would drop significantly and Lopez would reinjured his foot and miss another full season.

As of today th Knicks are in great shape. Even better shape if Melo takes less or is traded

Phil is a smart guy he's going to mold our team like the spurs did when pop came on board for the spurs ... I don't really think Phil cares if melo comes on board ... He's going to build a competitive team through yoots and draft. Also kd in 2016. He already has a rising star in thjr who's game is perfect for the triangle.

Is Rondo still on the Celtics after the three-team trade? I read that Boston cleared out $33mil in cap space, which HAD to include Rondo. Anyone know what's up?

Who ever told u that was not right. Boston took on a contract and acquired another #1 pick
