If this is the match up....

Randle, Melo, Pau, Kobe and Steve Nash on life support

vs.

Amare, Melo, possibly Pau, Calderón and JR Smith

who would you sign with?

For 1 year, with a healthy kobe, of course the lakers. After that, the Knicks may be in better shape.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

Both are bad. It's hard to say. If those are the only choices, I'd just pick whichever city I liked more.

I would have said that but the west is so competitive. Best case scenario, I don't think Melo and the Lakers would be more than an embarrassing 1st round exit in the playoffs. Note that 48 wins didn't even make the playoffs in the west and a low 50 win total gets you a brutal 1st round matchup.

yeah - good point about the west. That was always his issue with his Denver seedings.

OK so if it's for 1 year you choose the Lakers

then I the flipside the west is brutal and they could miss the playoffs anyway

so....

If Melo comes back to the Knicks, does the Lakers and Kobe mutually part ways and work out a salary dump trade with the knicks?

Pau, Melo, Sam, Calderón and Kobe....2 year mini run?

Does it make sense now?
