basically an article, regarding Bobcats, the changes of their organization, and how we can learn/change our roster with coaching/players/development/role players/ and establishing a "winning culture"

Josh McRoberts really helped his stock last season, after adding a 3pt shot, decent post game, better ability to penetrate/finish, and I have always liked him
While possibly adding him with the 3.2m MLE, draft space, or trading for him with the trade exemption obtained in the Chandler deal
I see him as a fit WITH or WITHOUT CA, but will NOT sign him immediately until we clear up the CA decision,
we could be under the cap, which allows us to make a bid for amnestied players/waiver wire

but

can give him a "promised" deal until we find out our next moves that could put us over the cap or luxury tax if we keep CA

I think playing with Kemba Walker, Al Jefferson, and the youth and skills on their roster in addition to the COACHING CHANGE, fit very well for him

1- Kemba Walker's ability to penetrate and break defense down, RUN the PnR to earn McRoberts room
2- Al Jefferson's ability to POST UP

3-, even with the shooting/scoring of Gerald Henderson

4- The scoring/penetration that came from Sessions/Jeff Adrien *both traded to Bucks* as a bench player to Gary Neal and Luke Ridnour's BB IQ *after trade with Bucks*
Jeff Adrien is quite under rated if you asked me, which is also a UFA

5- The combination of Youth of MKG/ Zellar and even Bismack Biyombo's athleticism and their length/athleticism really helped fit for the TEAM and his improvements

6- Even the vets of Pargo and Anthony Tolliver, fit in very well, and played well when given the minutes, always ready when called upon

Josh McRoberts highlights 2014
========================================

In my opinion,
He is a FILL in player, after we have a BIG 3 to establish with, however, at the right price, I would take him now
I do think we need to add another PG or upgrade our PG with only Larkin only able to penetrate consistently, comparing how Kemba played well with him
Fortunately there are still many PG's left, some of which would require our exemptions to use, some of which are undrafted, and could be vet mins

There are many SG's available but with Ben Gordon and even Jodie Meeks overpaid, I don't know what is the true "value" of some players anymore

However, our only 2 choices would be with our MLE (big or small, depending on our moves) and the trading exemption (likely needs to be traded and would cost us assets or maybe the 3.2m would do it)

If Melo is resigning, I think this is the PF/C the way to go that PLAYS BIG but moves well, though not a recipe for being contenders, it allows us to play a much better OFFENSIVE FLOW and THE THE MAJOR THEORIES of the triangle, with his ability to play both PF or C but has some abilities of a SF, and is only 27 years of age and born on February

The Coaching STAFF did a great job with the entire team, with vast improvements in year 1, which allowed him to flourish as a role player

Head Coach - Steve Clifford
Lead Assistant - Patrick Ewing, did a great job with Al Jefferson in addition to the development of Biyombo/Zellar and continued development with McRoberts

Bob Beyer
Stephen Silas
Bob Weiss
Mark Price

They added in Steve Hetzel that was the Head Coach of the D League's Canton Charge to their assistant coaching staff
Give much credit to Rich Cho, as GM of the Bobcats, turning the franchise around after Jordan stayed out of his way of basketball related decisions
He did a great job in step one of turning the franchise around and has rebuilt the coaching staff, development staff, trainers, scouts, and players as part of the "winning culture", change
It was just 2 seasons ago, that Bobcat's were one of the biggest jokes of the entire NBA franchise, without the ability to win 2 games, possibly 3 in a row for multiple years

In addition, give much credit to the scouting department and GM this summer, though they made some pretty bad decision looking back at the 2 previous drafts
I didn't think that Cho and his scouting/drafting team, were going to make some pick ups because of their past draft history, though not horrible, they left off many talents that could improve their roster much better, however, this summer I think they did a great job overall, which they had multiple picks to use, with 3 in a very strong/deep draft, in picks

z, while I think they made a big mistake with MKG, leaving out Drummond/Lilliard and even Harrison Barnes is the better player vs MKG, which was drafted 2nd overall, Harrison Barnes, before Drummond/Lilliard/ Bradley Beal, Terrence Ross, Terrence Jones, even Miles Plumlee (had they traded down) and 4th pick overall, Codey Zeller over MCW and Giannis Antetokounmpo

This summer that added many very good draft selections with

Noah Vonleh - my comparison being ayoung Chris Bosh with more range (at the time of the draft), probably closer to Bosh's improved 3pt shooting NOW but with good upside, a stretch PF, that probably will also play some C when he fills out, and unlike most stretch 4's he also has the ability to score INSIDE and in the post

PJ HAIRSTON - my comparisons being a less physically athletic/speed/quickness of Lance Stephenson but with a much better shot at the time of the draft, Lance really developed in to a very good player and wasn't even relevant as a 12-15 man for his first 2 seasons that talked a lot of trash on the sidelines, however, I believe speed/quickness/average athleticism could be improved and worked on over time, he is NBA ready with his body and skills, ability to shoot, handle the ball, and take NBA contact to finish with his strength

and

2nd round steal in

Dwight Powell who has the physical abilities with athleticism, speed/athleticism/ability to handle the ball and very good shooting mechanics/ability that could improve the NBA range with Mark Price, though still quite raw, there is quite a lot of upside in him, I compare him to a YOUNG Taj Gibson/Brandon Wright, when they were both drafted, stuck between a SF/PF, but with much a much better shot already
Though still raw, he has much upside in his defensive potential including his athleticism/mobility/ and shot (possibly adding to 3pt range in another year or 2 with Mark Price and Ewing developing with him

With many Double Double nights, some near triple double nights, and the opportunity he never got in his career to play a bigger role/minutes
His abilities are his versatility, mobility for size, 3pt range, handle for size/ability to penetrate, ability to post up/pass, play both on and off the ball, and is a very good complimentary player that is still 27 (February becomes 28) so still "young" but with enough experience without the mileage with his limited minutes played prior to last season for Pacer's/Lakers/Bobcats

Out of all of PG's, only Larkin posses speed/quickness/handle ability to penetrate (though not the greatest finisher at his size)
But I think we need to upgrade or add talent with SPEED/QUICKNESS/ ABILITY TO PENETRATE/FINISH WITH CONTACT, along with POST PRESENCE's

My point is, by changing our coaching staff, focusing more on development, proper free agent signings, and what Phil Jackson is looking forward to implicating besides the Triangle, it could have a huge effect/affect on our TEAM from coaching staff/trainers and players from ALL STAR's to role players

Looking back at Bobcats history, I don't think ANYONE would have predicted them going to the playoffs with the little acquisitions they made in addition to their change of "culture"

set by Rich Cho, GM/PRESIDENT of New Orleans Bobcats and previous assembled Portland's roster but was fired because he amnestied previous ALL STAR Brandon Roy and Paul Allen was furious when he made an attempt to return to the NBA with Twolves which was cut shortly but cost him some money on the insurance side

However, much of it was due to Kemba Walker's ability to penetrate and the attention given to Al Jefferson on the post, in addition to their youth/athleticism/ and scoring/shooting of Gereld Henderson

PG's
===========
Calderon
Larkin

*Pablo, likely CUT, and can sign a better player that we could develop in either the undrafted list or UFA list from vet min to MLE + players*
I think the 2 best "STARTING" PG's that were possibly available (Lowry not being realistic given our cap space and lack of assets, unless we never traded for AB, probably could have even got LOWRY at the time of the deal had we PUSHED for him,

undrafted PG's
---------------
Bryce Cotton was one of the better shooters that was signed by SA but there are still many left, some are

DeAndre Kane
Sean Kilpatrick
Kendall Williams

all 3 have great size and the ability to play SG, like Lilliard does

PG/SG, Combo guard
-------------------------
Burton's athleticism/ability to finish with contact/penetration is still out there, though is a PG/SG but would fit in with Calderon

Markel Starks is one of the better SHOOTING PG left undrafted

Vet Min PG's
----------------

that still have SOME youth and could be part of our future plans, not just another stoppage PG

Brian Roberts
Darrius Morris/ Tourre Murry/ E'Twaun Moore
Troy Daniels *just released*
Jimmer Freddette

Exemptions/trade and MLE
----------------------------------

Realistic trades and use of exemptions (trade or MLE *depends on 3.2m or 5m+)

Greviez Vasquez (with Lowry signing a 12m x 4 year deal, the once triple double threat on a poor team could be made available)

Sessions/Bayless while Bayless (had a bad year on a bad team) probably has more defensive abilities, Sessions has been nothing but a under rated journeyman through out his entire career and has added a legit 3pt shot to his ability of penetration, while I see players like Jodie Meeks, Shaun Livingston, being overpaid, not really for Darren Collison (think he is payed about right for his abilities)

Mo Williams *not too fond of him because of his age but does have 3pt shooting, but see him declining soon so rather go after another target*

SG's
========

Tim Hardaway JR *especially on the OPEN COURT*

JR Smith/Iman

Honestly, I think we can sell all of these players above and still be fine with limited salary players IF we can sell high on them, as they affect our 2015-16 and 2016-17 cap space
If we can turn these players in to future assets/players, it is something I think will be on Phil Jackson's mind in the near future

Greak Freak Deuxe *likely stashed for a year for contract/financial reasons so he can be part of our roster in the future as he can develop elsewhere and NOT get poison pilled like Fields/Lin/Osik if he does develop*
We can use part of our exemptions on him to get a 3year deal, however, that would also limit our ability to sign FREE AGENTS and add talents

Unlike Cleanthony Early, who was picked 34th pick, who has a TEAM OPTION/UNGUARANTEED for at least 3, maybe 4 years as an early 2nd rounder, which actually sometimes holds more value than a late 1st rounder because they are not financially obligated to sign/keep them, usually able to grab high risk players and Euro talents for stash purposes, and some 1st round talents FALL because teams pick the "potential" of players and this hopefully one

FREE AGENTS
=================

Exemptions
---------------

Evan Turner G/F with some point guard skills and good size, playing with the ball though and not the best playing OFF the ball, after not playing in the Conference Finals with strep throat Pacer's declined his 9-8.7m qualifying offer, once the #2 pick of the 2010 NBA draft with John Wall picked 1ss over all and after Turner were talents in Paul George, Bledsoe, DeMarcus Cousins, Gordon Hayward (our pick that was drafted before Paul George, but was part of the Marbury deal), Lance Stephenson *pick 40 overall*, Larry Sanders, Greg Monroe, Derrick Favors, Avery Bradley, Greviez Vasquez, Patrick Peterson, and the same draft class as Laundry Fields/Cole Aldrich/Aldrich/Rautins/Jerome Jordan, some other UFA's in the draft include Jordan Crawford/Ekpe Udoh/Trevor Booker/James Anderson/Devin Ebanks/Xavier Henry/Wesley Johnson/Daniel Orton, some other notables in the class are Quincy Pondexter, Hassan Whiteside, Luke Babbit

Ariza *is 5m + MLE even enough at this point, with some of these ridiculous contracts, I see given out

vet mins
---------------

Garreat Temple PG/SG

John Jenkins/Anthony Morrow/Swaggy P to replace JR Smith if traded

Jared Cunningham/Roddy Beaubois

Brandon Rush - with unguaranteed money for 2 year deal, gamble/risk/reward

Ebanks G/F

I like McRoberts. He's a good passer and solid rotation guy when the three is working. We'll probable be able to get him for about $3M per. I've seen enough of Evan Turner and Swaggy P to know they won't fit. Vasquez seems like a good option if we somehow unload Pablo and Ellington. Vasquez is a decent defender at two guard and you could pair him in the backcourt with Shump. But I think Vasquez pulls $4M per, at least.
Always... always remember: Less is less. More is more. More is better and twice as much is good too. Not enough is bad, and too much is never enough except when it's just about right. - The Tick

I like him and his passing would be nice but his rebounding seriously dropped last year. I understand his offensive rebounding dropping since he is stepping away from the basket but I do not like that his drebs dropped too.

I think McRoberts will be out of our price range - he will at least get the big MLE if not something in the 6-7mm per annum range.

I sometimes do a double take when Ron post a shortish post but what's funny is that I will open the thread again and see another chapter right under it almost every time. It's either that or a short post that is double posted. It cracks me up.

Have to give Ron credit for his passion and his research. There is always good stuff in there.
