Pretty much takes him off the table in the free agent market. Looks like he'll re-sign with the Spurs while he recovers.

He won't be back till the trade deadline if he's lucky. Might have to take a loss on any basketball till the summer

I need the same surgery but can't have it until after I move this summer. Mills must have been shot up with cortisone last season.

I give him credit for not pulling a JR Smith but he probably should have from a financial sense

Are you going to have it done? I think we talked about working out with rotator cuff issues and you suggested using lighter weight. I was doing that and felt like my shoulder joint was getting stronger. I increased the weight just a little and it caused me problems. I have been avoiding going to the doctor. Keep me posted on how things go and good luck.

Thanks Crush. Looks like Im going to have to. When I had an MRI last year the doctor told me it was under a 50 percent tear so they couldn't operate so I really built up my shoulders and was feeling good until the cortisone wore off. It hurt but it was manageable.

Since then I tore it some more doing yard work and now Im pretty sure its a full tear or close to it. Just have to move my arm the wrong way and Im hurting bad. Going to wait until after I move to have surgery (if they will let me) because at my age it could take up to a year to recover. Sucks because this has been dragging on for 2 years now and I can barely lift a ten pound weight, also can't play bball. Doctors wont give me any more cortisone and I wont take pain pills so its been unpleasant to say the least.

I would get an MRI to get an idea of what you're dealing with, get a shot of cortisone if you can, really does help. Good luck to you as well.

Any mention to what happend to Mills?

It was mentioned he was good in post season physical as well.

SAS will take care of him. WOn't get top dollar but they take care of their own.

That was the Knicks fault. I think they knew fully well most teams wouldn't have given him a big contract, based on his playoff performance and I am sure they knew full well of his injury. They played themselves.

How serious is it? This could be a chance to get a good young player at a discount. I guess "out 6 months" sounds pretty bad though.

Sucks for this dude, man. This definitely cost him some money. Several million probably.

I was thinking the same thing. Get him on the low with a team option in the second year would be a coup. He is young enough to take a slight risk.

I thought the word is that he's returning to San Antonio, at least for this one year. My bad. No decision has been made. I agree we should take a chance. Can't low ball him too much because the spurs are still interested.

All the Knicks have is a lowball. They have no real cap space.

Compare this dude to Jerryd Bayless for a sec -

Just my humble opinion -- both are offensive point guards only Bayless can do even more -- he's bigger (6'3" compared to 6'), stronger, more athletic, and even though Mills is a good offensive player, Bayless can do even more on that end of the floor. And Mills is out with the shoulder issue with a significant 6 month recovery period, so there's that to consider now as well..

Both Bayless & Mills are young/around the same age, I just feel Bayless has a vast amount of untapped potential, more than Mills. To me he's the better buy provided we recognized the ridiculous amount of potential and were willing to give this kid a chance to fulfill it & run the team. That's what it would take to make this idea work...The reward far outweighs any risk here -- like I said the other day, if he didn't blow up like I'd expect, we'd still have a young, competent rotation combo guard at a good price that could always be moved later, plus he'd have Calderon and Shane Larkin around to take over if he couldn't handle it...Thing is I think he definitely could handle it and actually thrive here in a larger role.. If he did take off, we're talking the next star player in the NBA.. He certainly has the confidence and enough talent for it...Think about Kyle Lowry and how his game took off once he was finally given more responsibility. That dude was not much more than a glorified backup PG until last year...Having a team give you that kind of responsibility can do wonders for certain guys. It did for Lowry and I think it could for this guy too...I could picture a very similar elevated production with Bayless with increased mins and responsibility, only on an even bigger scale compared to Lowry. I feel Bayless is flat out more talented than Lowry.

To me, you get this kid Bayless and give him the keys -- starting PG, over 30 mins a night and let him do his thing. No NBA team has given him that yet. He had that in college and was a flat out stud, even as a freshman...If he gets too trigger happy (the only perceived "flaw" I can really see), Fisher/Phil sit him down, go over the big picture, the importance of sharing the ball with his teammates, and reign him in a little...but not too much because I love his aggressiveness and ability to score the ball. I'd want this kid to get his share of shots up every night, just like I'd expect Patty Mills to take his share of shots. Bottom line for me here -- Jerryd Bayless > Patty Mills, and again I LOVE MILLS. I'd love to see Phil show some guts and take a chance here -- let's try to grab this kid and duplicate what Toronto did with Lowry last yr.. Bayless is more than capable. I'd love to see us roll the dice here on a talent like this that we could probably get at a discounted price..

Bayless and Mills are two vastly different players when it comes to efficiency.

$4M per. This craps on our lowball offer. Heck, it craps on our highest possible offer.

Classy move for the spurs. They've never done something like that though. Paying a dude slightly more than some teams could to keep a dude that just had major surgery.
