...and we should sign him, if our goal is to keep Melo and win next season. Despite our upgrades to the PG position, I'm not completely sold on its viability. Calderon is 33, Prigioni is older still and Larkin is basically a rookie. Nelson would bring a degree of stability and would make a few of those other guys expendable so that we could use them to solidify our depth at other positions (if possible).

That was my first thought too, but if you're Jameer, why do you pick NY? They just traded for, presumably, their starting PG, all of a sudden have a bit of a glut at the position if you come on board, are coming off a bum year and potentially losing their star player, and are on the low end of the scale in regards to teams that can pay you.

Would have been a minor miracle before the Dallas trade, but the timing is off on this one.

Outside of MIA and HOU, I don't know of any contender where Jameer Nelson would be considered an upgrade as a starter. Considering the massive amount of cap space they'll likely have this summer though, I suspect that they'll do better than him, which would give us an opportunity to get Nelson with the full MLE.

I'm not sure what Derek Fisher would do but I could definitely see Nelson getting major minutes, if not starting outright. Calderon has been a fringe starter for most of his career (having had Mike James, TJ Ford and Jarrett Jack play with/ahead of him), so I don't think he'd be opposed to coming off the bench if it came to that. More important than that is the fact that Calderon has only played in 75 games or more, 4 times in his 8 year career. Jameer Nelson has been in the same injury boat as well, so hopefully we can put them together to get 82+ games out of them.

I could definitely see Nelson in OKC as an upgrade over Fisher. It would allow them to move Jackson to the starting lineup and give them a veteran playmaker alongside Westbrook. I wouldn't mind him here either, but he'll have to improve his D from last season.
