this is guy is a 20 10 player when he plays, but then the magics signed juwan howard, and now it looks as if they will get Omeka or dwight, so y not try and get drew gooden. he's young and atheletic and could even hit the 3. what do u guys think?

never seen him play really, but he looks kind of thin for the type of player the Knicks need.

IMHO they need a defensive weak-side shotblocker or a post player who draws double teams. PF, C. Gooden seems like the new kind of SF who is nearly 7 foot and like to hang in the perimeter. I could be wrong, I've just not seen this cat play much.

West thought Gooden was the new kind of SF, but West was wrong as Gooden is a wimpy PF so far

You took the words right out of my mouth. He's the definition of a tweener. He's got some skills (enough to get playing time in the NBA) but he's too slow to guard SFs and too weak to guard PFs.

Because of his size, quickness, and athleticism I think Gooden has some pretty good upside. When he's on, he plays big. He's still a young player who is playing for his 3rd (perhaps soon to be 4th) coach and 2nd team. He needs some time to settle down. He's a player somewhere along the lines of a Rasheed Wallace--- a big man with SF quickness. Alas, when players have these hybrid skills, they sometimes get caught hanging around the perimeter a little too much.

Rasheed does not have SF quickness even though the Blazers played him out of position at SF. He's also a thousand times stronger than Drew Gooden.

I agree with Bonn here 100%. Gooden's a tweener but still has some upside.

I'd take Drew over Kurt anyday,he may need to get stronger, but he can keep up with steph on a fastbreak. and this kid can score and has heart and not afraid to take the last shot...oh! and about ten years younger than Kurt.

Yeah....the Knicks pretty much have their starting 5 set for next year:

Nazr
Sweetney (I think KT is definatly going to be traded)
TT
Houston
Steph

Any additions will probably be upgrades to the current backups or they have to be considerably better than the starting 5 if you are going to replace one of them.

agree on that. Provided sweet improves, he should start by the mid of season. I think he may be a lil short right now, but soon would be able to.

I don't think they can get away with starting Sweets and Nazr. Sweets has admitted to being 6'7". That's fine, but Nazr is 6'10". You can't play a front line that small night in and night out in the league. And don't say that the rest of the East sucks, because it's getting better and bigger every draft. They need to upgrade the C or the PF position this summer, and they need to add a backup swingman, who can start when (not if) Houston goes down. I like Stephen Jackson for that role.

Sweets has a 7 foot wing span. That's much more important than height. You undoubtedly can get away with a PF with a 7 foot wing span regardless of who your center is. Indeed, most PFs dream of having that kind of wing span. As for Nazy, I'd be surprised if he's the starting center next season anyway. There are too many free agent centers available. Even if none of them would like to take a paycut to come to NY, I'm sure at least one will slip through for the MLE. Rasheed, Blount, Swift (F/C), Dampier, Okur, Magloire, and Camby aren't going to all get more than the MLE.

thats a small team i think nazr is closer to 6-9 sweetney closer to 6-7.

i think isiah knows he needs size upfront. it remains to be seen what they will do, but if they come back as is, we're small.

to many people have it locked in their heads that H2O is going to comeback and play 80+ games 35+ minutes. IMHO, i wouldnt doubt the possibilty that H2O is done or close to it where he would need to take a 6th man type role and play 20-22 minutes off the bench. It wouldnt be the worst thing and Im sure they are preparing for the possibility.

Other than Tim Thomas and Marbury I cant give you a starting 5 at this point. If you want to say Nazr sweetney houston with those guys we are small slow with porous defense.

I agree; I wish Houston wasn't so stubborn about getting doctors' opinions on surgery.
